Lightning Labs Launches Wavelength on Bitcoin Mainnet, Enabling AI Agents to Pay AutonomouslyโšกAI agents can now make Bitcoin payments without requiring human approval for every transaction. Lightning Labs has opened Wavelength to everyone on Bitcoin mainnet, bringing autonomous payments closer to everyday use. ๐Ÿค– What Is Wavelength? Wavelength is a toolkit that allows developers to integrate Bitcoin payments into applications and AI agents without running their own Lightning nodes, managing payment channels, or sourcing liquidity. Using the Lightning Network and the L402 protocol, AI agents can pay for API calls, purchase data, access online services, and transact with other agents in fractions of a cent. This means an AI agent can pay for a service exactly when it needs itโ€”without a credit card, traditional account, or manually configured API key. ๐Ÿ’ธ How Does It Work? Wavelength connects AI agents to Bitcoin payments through a simple interface that developers can integrate into their applications. For example, an AI agent needing premium data could automatically pay a small Bitcoin-denominated fee to access it. Another agent could charge for its services and receive payments directly. This creates opportunities for machine-to-machine commerce, where software can buy and sell digital services around the clock. ๐Ÿ” Self-Custodial Wallets and Fees Wavelength is built around self-custody, letting users retain control of their funds. Users can also move their Bitcoin back to the Bitcoin blockchain independently. The current mainnet release includes: 300,000 sats maximum balance per account.0.25% service fee on Lightning payments, plus standard routing fees.Independent on-chain exits, subject to Bitcoin network fees.Stablecoin support planned for a future release. However, Wavelength remains in alpha, meaning the product is still evolving and users should consider its technical and operational risks. ๐Ÿš€ Why Does This Matter for Bitcoin? Lightning: paying without waiting for a blockThe Lightning Network is a second layer on top of Bitcoin built for fast, cheap payments. Two parties lock funds in a shared channel on-chain, then pay each other off-chain as often as they like, updating the balance instantly. Only opening and closing the channel touch the main chain. Payments can hop across connected channels, so you do not need a direct channel with everyone you pay. The trade-offs: channels need liquidity, your wallet or a service has to manage them, and very large payments may be better settled on-chain. Bitcoin Lightning security just got an important upgrade, but the details matter. ACINQโ€™s Eclair v0.14.4 blocks forged browser commands that could potentially allow a malicious webpage to interact with a Lightning API under specific conditions. The risk depends on two factors: an API reachable from the browser and cached login credentials. This is not a universal attack against every Lightning node, but it highlights a weakness developers should take seriously. The interesting part is the trade-off. Browser-based frontends now need a backend to communicate with the API, while command-line access remains unaffected. My take: building Bitcoin infrastructure is not just about faster and cheaper payments. It is also about protecting the systems that manage those payments from unexpected attack paths. As Lightning adoption grows, can developers keep the user experience simple without creating new security risks? $BTW $AGT $EPIC #Bitcoin #lightningnetwork #CryptoSecurity #CryptoNews

๐Ÿ“ฐ Lightning Labs co-founder Olaoluwa Osuntokun proposed LayerTree: letting thousands or even millions of users share a single Bitcoin UTXO while keeping track of each personโ€™s balance and preserving their right to exit unilaterally. It sounds like bringing an exchangeโ€™s โ€œeveryone shares one pool of moneyโ€ model on-chain, but the key difference is that users donโ€™t have to trust only the operatorโ€™s database. ๐Ÿ’ก LayerTree stores usersโ€™ balances in an off-chain Merkle Sum Tree, while the chain holds only the shared UTXO and a commitment to the treeโ€™s root. The sum of the balances in the tree must match the funds in the UTXO, and changing any leaf node changes the root. To exit, a user can submit their leaf node, Merkle proof, and signature without the operatorโ€™s approval. Here, O(1) means exiting requires just one transaction; it doesnโ€™t mean the proof size stays constant. The proof still grows as O(log N) with the number of users. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Everyday transfers try to avoid touching on-chain state. A Channel leaf puts a Lightning channel in a tree leaf, with the operator forwarding payments as HTLCs; a voucher is more like a digital check that can be redeemed on-chain. Once the recipient has a signed voucher, they can submit a CLAIM themselves if the operator wonโ€™t cooperate, allowing the script to deduct funds from the payerโ€™s balance and create a new leaf. ๐Ÿค” But โ€œredeemable on-chainโ€ doesnโ€™t mean risk-free. Alice could sign vouchers for two people that each exceed her balance. Both signatures would be genuine, but there wouldnโ€™t be enough money to cover both, so whoever submits first might get paid. Older vouchers could also become invalid when the leafโ€™s state number is updated, so until a voucher is settled, it still carries the issuerโ€™s credit risk. ๐Ÿ“Œ The most appealing part of this design is that it keeps everyday payments off-chain while giving users a way to exit on their own. The real challenge is handling unsettled vouchers and competition over balances. Would you be willing to put your funds into this kind of shared UTXO structure? #ๆฏ”็‰นๅธ #LayerTree #LightningNetwork #BlockchainScaling

Last year we witnessed a major and historic event here in Tanzania, the Dar es Salaam Lightning Developer Bootcamp, which lasted for 5 days. This bootcamp was led by brilliant leaders from Africa Free Routing, brothers Megasley & Yasir, and it was sponsored by major international organizations such as the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), Btrust, PlanB.network, and Tether, in collaboration with our Bitcoin family here in Tanzania, BitcoinSafariTz. For 5 days, the developers learned in depth Bitcoin and Lightning Network technologies, starting from the fundamentals of protocol, how to build wallets, and up to how to create applications that work fast and at low cost. At the end of the bootcamp, participants joined a hackathon and built various products aimed at solving real social challenges here in Tanzania using the Lightning Network. This is a big step toward building African solutions using Bitcoin technology. But there is an important thing to consider. A large percentage of the participants were men, and the number of women was very small. Electrum has released security update v4.8.2, but some Bitcoin self-custody users still need to take manual action by updating their channel backups. A defect in older backup files could prevent users from recovering funds in anchor channels if a remote peer suddenly closes the channel. Because non-deterministic Lightning keys cannot be recreated strictly from a wallet seed, individual channel exports and full-wallet backups created under specific conditions lack the critical payment-key data needed to sweep coins back to the main blockchain. This primarily impacts wallets using BIP39 seeds, imported private keys, or Electrum wallets generated prior to version 4.1. For active Lightning network users, backup integrity is critical. A failure to sweep outputs after an unannounced channel closure directly puts user balances at risk, serving as a reminder that off-chain scaling solutions still require careful backup management. Have you checked your Electrum Lightning backup settings recently, or do you prefer fully automated channel management? #bitcoin #Electrum #lightningnetwork #CryptoSecurityAlert
