๐ค 6.4 million AI agent payments, totaling only about $120,000?
BeInCryptoโs โ2026 State of AI Agent Paymentsโ report analyzed around 6.4 million x402 transactions on Base and Solana over 35 days:
๐น The total amount was only about $119,947
๐น 90.8% of transactions were worth less than 1 cent
๐น Most were small data requests, not actual buying and selling
๐น The report rated readiness for micropayments at 60.7 out of 100, while institutional-grade workflows scored just 12.0
๐น Of the 19 AI products reviewed, most still have humans set spending limits and prevent agents from withdrawing funds themselves
I did the math: that works out to about $0.019 per transactionโless than 2 cents.
So the claim that โAI agent payments are boomingโ needs to be taken in two parts: transaction counts are indeed rising, but money hasnโt really been handed over to AI yet. Pay-per-request data access between machines is already working; the industry itself isnโt ready for AI to manage real money on your behalf.
One small reminder: quite a few posts sharing this report on X are promotional efforts coordinated with project teams. Some have more replies than likes. So take a moment before buying into slogans like โAI payments are taking offโโand go back to the numbers in the report.
My take: spending limits and human approval are the right approach. AI can run errands for you, but itโs best to keep the keys in your own hands.
How much would you let an AI agent spend? Under $100, or not even a cent? ๐
