Stocks Drift With AI Risks and Labour Data in Focus
US stocks, Treasuries and the dollar struggled for direction as traders held fire ahead of a string of artificial-intelligence events, the week's first labor data and lingering Middle East uncertainty, according to Bloomberg. S&P 500 futures were little changed after the index erased its gains for the month in the previous session, and the lack of conviction showed in bonds too, with the 10-year Treasury yield hovering near a 19-year high. The dollar inched higher, while oil rose for a second day as US-Iran talks made little progress and demand looked strong. An uneasy calm settled over markets after a turbulent start to the week in which volatile oil prices triggered selling across stocks and bonds.Focus now turns to a lunch meeting on AI risks between US President Donald Trump and industry leaders including Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. A busy stretch of labor-market data begins with the August job openings report, while remarks from six Federal Reserve speakers will be parsed for rate clues at a time when investors see as many as four rate hikes over the next 12 months. Stocks have proved relatively resilient even as higher borrowing costs cloud the outlook for growth and earnings. "Given the macro environment that we're in I would have expected they'd be trading at a much bigger discount," said Michael Field, equity market strategist at Morningstar. "Investors are really separating out what the economy looks like versus what's the prospect for stocks."In corporate news, the Wall Street Journal reported that Goldman Sachs's board has discussed a plan for Chief Operating Officer John Waldron to succeed David Solomon as CEO as early as next year; Julius Baer said Swiss regulator Finma ended its enforcement procedure against the bank and it has submitted a share-buyback request; the Journal also reported OpenAI canceled the release of its latest AI model after researchers found safety risks in testing; and AMD agreed to buy Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for $8.2 billion. In markets, as of 8:35 a.m. UTC, the Stoxx Europe 600 rose 0.6% and Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.1%, while the MSCI Asia Pacific Index fell 0.7%. The euro slipped 0.2% to $1.1346 and the pound eased 0.2% to $1.3230. Bitcoin rose 0.6% to $84,023.45 and Ether gained 1.1% to $2,712.25. NVIDIA’s Board of Directors has authorized a $150 billion increase to the share repurchase program, raising the remaining total program to $235 billion.
A good move, as $NVDA looks undervalued here.
This also shows confidence in the company’s future growth prospects.
#SEI is showing a strong 4H bullish structure, with consecutive higher highs and a fresh breakout toward the $0.0685 resistance area. Momentum remains strong after the move above $0.0650.
