Nayib Bukele Admits Bitcoin Adoption in El Salvador Has Not Lived Up to Expectations

The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, revealed that Bitcoin adoption in his country has not gone as far as he would like after adopting the world's largest crypto asset as legal tender in 2021.

In an interview with Time magazine released on August 29, Bukele stated that although Bitcoin has had a positive impact on El Salvador, the results have not been as big as he had hoped.

[Many things] can be done. Bitcoin has not been as widely adopted as we had hoped. Many El Salvadorans already use Bitcoin, and the majority of large businesses in the country also accept Bitcoin payments.
