ฅ็็็็ฒไธ็พค๐จ WEMIX Official Confirms a Major Security Incident!
Due to the compromise of admin privileges by hackers, the WEMIX Dollar stablecoin (WEMIX$) was illegally mintedโby roughly 5.22 million coinsโamounting to as much as $5.2 million. There are also:
๐ฐ About 30,000 WEMIX
๐ต About 720,000 USDC.e
that were transferred out without authorization.
So what exactly happened this time?
Official statements say the attacker successfully obtained admin privileges for the WEMIX$ smart contract.
This means the hacker can mint new stablecoins โout of thin airโ without going through normal procedures.
In simple terms, itโs basically this:
๐ Admin privileges were stolen
โก๏ธ Hackers directly minted stablecoins
โก๏ธ Then moved assets out to cash out
After the incident, the official team quickly took emergency measures:
๐ซ Shut down the cross-chain bridge
๐ซ Pause liquidity pool trading
๐ซ Withdraw the DeFi liquidity provided by the official
๐ซ Launch a comprehensive security investigation
However, these steps also brought major impact.
Wemixfi, the DeFi platform under WEMIX, saw its TVL (total value locked) drop by about 66% in an instant. Many users are worried about fund safety, and market confidence has clearly been shaken.
This incident once again highlights a long-standing problem in DeFiโ
whatโs truly dangerous isnโt necessarily a smart contract vulnerability, but admin privileges.
Once core permissions are breached, even if the contract itself has no issues, the entire system can still suffer massive losses.
In recent years, similar events have kept happening, prompting more and more projects to adopt:
๐ Multi-signature (Multi-Sig)
๐ก๏ธ Decentralized governance
๐ Stricter permission management
to reduce the risk caused by single points of failure.
For investors, this is yet another reminder:
No matter how advanced a projectโs technology is, security always comes first.
