【Calling it “bullish” a week ago, and down -3% today?】
Let’s look at the numbers first:
Today SOL: $ 113.46, 24-hour -3%
One week ago: around $ 100 (7-day increase +13.5%)
One month ago: about $ 72
See it now? In one week it rose 13.5%, and now it’s pulled back again. This isn’t what I’m saying—it’s the chart itself telling me.
When the FNG index was in the 70s, I mentioned that the greed zone isn’t a signal to go long; it’s a signal to hold back a bit. This SOL surge up and then drop is the market telling you—don’t get carried away; the direction still isn’t decided.
So what’s the truly interesting part right now?
Solana is testing the Alpenglow upgrade, which aims to cut the final confirmation time from 12.8 seconds down to 150 milliseconds. In terms of data, that’s nearly 100x faster—sounds scary, doesn’t it?
But what I want to ask is: what does this mean in practice?
Some people say this will make SOL more valuable. I don’t disagree, but I want to ask: who will buy more because of it? And buy it for what?
Look at Bitwise’s survey—institutions do hold SOL, but many have exit conditions set for it. What does that imply? They’re not here to be your trading buddy; they have their own timing.
So where’s the real business logic behind 150 milliseconds?
Payments, exchange integrations, cross-chain bridges—those are the areas that genuinely benefit. With faster confirmations, their users’ experience can truly improve, and they can capture more business. The logic works, but the question is: can the volume from these businesses support today’s valuation?
I got rugged once in 2017. That time, I also rushed in believing “technology changes the world.”
Later I learned this: technology is technology, and coin prices are coin prices. The gap between them is massive.
So now, when I look at this, I’m just here to watch. If it goes up, I don’t chase. If it dips, I don’t move. It’s not that I’m extra calm—only people who’ve lost money know when to just hold still.
What about you? What mindset do you have during this shakeout? Are you getting itchy to trade?
