KPMG has audited Tetherโs accounts and confirmed a reserves surplus of 6.8 billion dollars
KPMG has just made a decision on Tether. The independent audit firm grants the highest rating of โno reservesโ to the USDT issuer, confirming that its reserves exceed its obligations by $6.814 billion as of December 31, 2025. The worldโs most widely used stablecoin has just passed a real test. Not a simple technical check.
KPMG certifies that Tetherโs reserves exceed its obligations by $6.814 billion by the end of 2025.
Full balance sheet, cash flow, valuations, and physical inspection of every gold bar held by Tether.
The audited entity is only a subsidiary; the parent company of the Tether group has still not been audited as of today.
Stablecoin: what KPMGโs audit of Tether truly confirms
$6.814 billion. That is the surplus that Tether shows between its reserves and the related obligations for its tokens in circulation as of December 31, 2025. But the real change isnโt in the amount. Itโs in the method. Until now, Tether published quarterly certificatesโan instant photo at a specific point in time, taken by a third party over a perimeter defined by the company itself. A full audit is something else. KPMG reviewed:
Every gold bar owned by Tether, rather than limiting itself to the custodianโs records.
This difference changes everything for a stablecoin, because for years the question surrounding Tether (USDT) has remained the same: do the reserves really exist, in the proportions announced? For the first time, the answer no longer comes from Tether. It comes from a Big Four firm that stakes its own reputation on what it certifies. Itโs this shiftโfrom validated internal controls to binding external auditingโthat justifies calling it a turning point here, rather than a simple communications update.
