Florida Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar delivered a strong message on her official X account against the president of #Colombia, Gustavo Petro, after he questioned the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to double the reward for capturing Nicolás Maduro, the leader of the Venezuelan government.
Salazar directly accused Petro of defending Maduro for allegedly sharing "the same history of ties with guerrillas and criminal organizations." In her post, the legislator stated:
"Petro thinks it is 'normal' for the occupant of the presidential palace of a country to also be the head of cartels, gangs, or guerrillas. No, Petro, it is neither normal nor acceptable. We know why you defend Maduro: because you share the same history of ties with guerrillas and criminal organizations."
The message comes in response to the statement that the Colombian president posted on X, in which he criticized the U.S. reward policy and warned that it is not the way to resolve the Venezuelan crisis.
Petro stated that: "Regarding Venezuela, I have received support from Maduro and General Padrino to defeat the drug trafficking groups on the border with that country. The support has been strong and must continue. I do not believe that the solution to the political problems of Venezuelans lies in putting money to kill or capture political leaders.".
