Cryptocurrency exchange BigONE confirmed today (16) that the platform's hot wallet was hacked, resulting in the theft of assets worth US$27 million, but also emphasized that the losses related to the attack will be borne in full by BigONE and user assets will not be affected.

BigONE's official statement pointed out that abnormal transfers of some assets on the platform were detected early this morning. After investigation, it was determined that the platform was attacked by a third party and the hot wallet was damaged. Fortunately, the private key is safe and the attack route has been identified. No further losses are expected.

BigONE stated that it has cooperated with the security team "SlowMist" to track the hacker's address. The stolen assets include:

  • 120 BTC

  • 350 ETH

BigONE emphasized that the platform has launched its own security reserve assets to supplement the user's capital pool, covering currencies such as BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL, XIN, etc. As for other currencies, they will be replenished to the platform wallet as soon as possible through borrowing.

BigONE stated that the platform is currently restoring its system and it is expected that the recharge and trading functions will be reopened within a few hours. As for the withdrawal service, it will only be fully open after the security enhancement work is completed.

BigONE wrote in a statement, "All investigation progress and handling results will be kept transparent and updated regularly," and "We deeply apologize for the impact caused by this incident."

This attack once again sounded the alarm for the cryptocurrency industry. According to statistics, the cryptocurrency industry has suffered cumulative losses of more than US$2.1 billion due to hacker attacks so far this year.
