SEC Signals Serious Changes in the Cryptocurrency Industry

The SEC leadership is ramping up pressure on outdated capital-raising rules, sending bold signals that long-overdue reforms to Regulation A may finally open the floodgates for cryptocurrency companies.

Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Paul S. Atkins called for a review of Regulation A during a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Small Business Capital Formation held in Washington on Tuesday. He emphasized that the existing system is not suitable for a wide range of issuers, including those involved with crypto-assets.

Speaking on the sixth anniversary of the Committee's founding, Atkins took the opportunity to highlight the persistent regulatory barriers to capital formation for small businesses and the limited scope of Regulation A, despite previous reforms.
