Bill Gates Accuses Elon Musk of Harming the World's Poorest Children
A clash of billionaires with global consequences
A Controversial Accusation
Bill Gates has publicly criticized Elon Musk, accusing him of putting the world’s most vulnerable children at risk. The tech philanthropist condemned Musk’s move to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through his newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Aid Cutbacks and Health Crises
According to Gates, the shutdown has led to the expiration of life-saving food and medicine in warehouses, worsening the spread of diseases like HIV, measles, and polio in impoverished regions. Hospital grants in places like Gaza Province, Mozambique, were also reportedly cancelled—disrupting critical programs aimed at preventing HIV transmission.
“The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one,” Gates remarked starkly.
Global Fallout
Gates warned that Musk’s actions could fuel a rise in preventable diseases and child mortality. The sudden withdrawal of aid, he argues, has left already fragile health systems in chaos, especially in parts of Africa and Southeast Asia where USAID operated most heavily.
A Legacy of Giving
In contrast to Musk’s austerity drive, Gates reaffirmed his commitment to philanthropy. He announced that the Gates Foundation will be fully spent down by 2045, with $200 billion to be dedicated over the next 20 years to global health, education, and development.
“We’re not trying to last forever—we’re trying to make the biggest impact while we can,” Gates said.
