Where Is Capital Actually Flowing in RWA? A 2026 Sector Map

One of the biggest misconceptions about Real-World Assets (RWA) is treating them as a single investment theme.
They aren't.
Capital is concentrating in different RWA sectors for different reasons—safety, yield, growth, or infrastructure. Understanding why capital flows matters more than simply following the latest narrative.
1. Treasury & Cash-Equivalent Products (Defensive Capital)
This is currently one of the most mature RWA segments, offering on-chain exposure to short-duration government debt and cash-like instruments.
Why capital flows here
Transparent yield
Lower volatility
Capital preservation
Treasury management & DAO reserves
Watch for
Asset segregation
Redemption mechanics
Custody quality
Regulatory structure
Transfer restrictions
Key Insight: Treasury-backed RWAs prioritize stability over maximum returns and often serve as the benchmark for evaluating higher-risk RWA sectors.
2. Private Credit (Yield Capital)
Instead of government debt, these products tokenize corporate loans, trade finance, consumer credit, and structured lending.
Why capital flows here
Higher income potential
Attractive to yield-focused investors
Institutional demand for alternative credit
Trade-off Higher yield usually comes with higher credit, liquidity, and underwriting risk.
Key Insight: In private credit, understanding borrower quality is often more important than chasing the highest advertised yield.
3. Tokenized Funds & Institutional Wrappers
Blockchain is used as the settlement layer while maintaining familiar legal and regulatory fund structures.
Why institutions prefer this
Compliance
Operational clarity
Established reporting standards
Familiar legal frameworks
Watch for
Legal wrapper
Investor eligibility
NAV reporting
Redemption windows
Administrator & auditor quality
Key Insight: Large institutions often prioritize operational confidence over cutting-edge technology.
4. Tokenized Equities
This sector brings public stock exposure on-chain through tokenized representations.
Why it attracts attention
Familiar assets
Easier retail adoption
Faster distribution potential
Challenges
Corporate actions
Investor rights
Jurisdiction limits
Liquidity
Market-hour constraints
Key Insight: Better technology alone doesn't drive adoption. Distribution, regulation, and liquidity usually determine long-term success.
5. Commodities & Hard Assets
Gold-backed and commodity-backed tokens provide on-chain access to physical assets.
Why capital flows here
Inflation hedge
Familiar store-of-value
Transparent asset narrative
What matters most Custody, independent audits, and redemption credibility.
Key Insight: Trust comes from the reserve system—not the token itself.
6. Real Estate
One of the earliest RWA concepts, but adoption has been slower than many expected.
Why investors like it
Familiar asset class
Fractional ownership
Potential income generation
Challenges
Legal complexity
Property illiquidity
Cross-border regulation
Difficult standardization
Key Insight: Tokenization improves accessibility but doesn't remove the operational realities of owning physical property.
7. Infrastructure & Middleware (The Picks-and-Shovels)
Some investors prefer investing in the infrastructure enabling RWA growth rather than the assets themselves.
Examples include:
Tokenization platforms
Compliance solutions
Digital identity & KYC
Custody providers
Settlement infrastructure
Oracles & reporting systems
Key Insight: Infrastructure providers can benefit from ecosystem-wide growth regardless of which RWA category becomes dominant.
A Practical RWA Evaluation Framework
Before investing, ask:
1. What is the underlying asset?
2. Who is the issuer?
3. What rights does the token provide?
4. How liquid is it during market stress?
5. Where does the yield come from?
6. What regulatory risks exist?
Final Thought
RWA is not one trade.
Each sector has different return drivers, liquidity profiles, and regulatory considerations.
The best investors don't simply ask "Which RWA project is trending?"
They ask:
"Which type of capital is entering this sector—and why?"
That question often reveals far more than the narrative itself.
Why I think this version is stronger
It reads like institutional research rather than a news article.
Every section ends with a Key Insight, giving readers something memorable.
The Capital Rotation table makes the post easy to save and revisit.
The conclusion teaches a framework instead of promoting a narrative—exactly the kind of content that helps build OnChainFi into a trusted research brand.
These three represent different parts of the RWA ecosystem:

$CFG → Private credit & real-world asset financing
$PLUME → RWA-focused blockchain infrastructure

Strategy's $10.9B Dilemma: Buy Signal or Sell Signal?

Michael Saylor posted "Doing ₿usiness" on X—his usual Sunday teaser. But this time, the market isn't sure what comes next.

The Numbers:

· 842,138 BTC held at $75,419 avg cost
· -$10.83B unrealized paper loss
· -$8.22B net loss in Q2 2026

The Pivot:

For the first time ever, Strategy sold BTC:

· 3,588 BTC sold in July at ~$63,957
· Realized -$18.77M loss
· Built $4B cash reserve (covers 2.1 yrs of dividends)

The Catch:

The old playbook—issuing MSTR shares at a premium to buy more BTC—is broken. mNAV ratio compressed to ~1.0. No more premium = no more easy accumulation.

What's Next?

Analysts are split:

· Buy more? — Resume accumulation
· Sell more? — $5B sale program allows it

Bottom Line:

Saylor's tweets are no longer just "buy" signals. They're Rorschach tests. The real direction? It's in the SEC filings—not the posts.

Wells Fargo plans to introduce tokenized deposits for select corporate clients in 2026, initially supporting U.S. dollars (USD) and British pounds (GBP). This move marks a significant step in traditional finance’s adoption of blockchain technology. A tokenized deposit is a digital representation of a regular bank deposit, recorded on a blockchain. Each token is backed 1:1 by funds in a Wells Fargo account, fully redeemable and carrying the same protections (like FDIC insurance for USD) as a traditional deposit. Because it lives on a blockchain, it can move 24/7 in near real-time, eliminating the delays of legacy payment systems. Unlike unregulated stablecoins, tokenized deposits are issued by a regulated bank, making them a safe bridge between conventional banking and blockchain efficiency. Why it matters: For businesses, tokenized deposits can streamline treasury management. Companies can send and receive payments instantly, automate settlements with smart contracts, and cut friction in cross-currency transactions—especially useful for the USD-GBP corridor. This can shorten the time it takes to pay suppliers, settle trades, or manage cash across multiple accounts. Industry context: Wells Fargo joins a growing list of banks exploring tokenization. JPMorgan’s JPM Coin already serves institutional clients, and other global banks are running pilots. By targeting 2026, Wells Fargo has time to ensure compliance, security, and smooth integration with existing systems. The limited rollout to select corporate clients will test the waters; if successful, it could open the door to wider availability and more currencies. In short, tokenized deposits bring the speed and programmability of blockchain to everyday business banking, keeping money fully within the regulated system. This is a practical, near-term use of blockchain that could make corporate payments as seamless as sending an email. #TokenizedDeposits #BlockchainBanking #DigitalAssets #FinTech #WellsFargo

🚀 SEI Giga Explained: What Is Actually Changing?Yesterday, I asked a simple question: SEI's 200K TPS sounds impressive—but what does it actually mean? The important part is this: 200K TPS is a target for technical capacity. So naturally, the next question is: How is Sei trying to get there? This is where Sei Giga becomes important. 👇 ⚙️ What Is Sei Giga? Giga is not simply a “speed upgrade.” It represents a major redesign of the infrastructure underneath Sei, with the goal of making the network capable of handling much higher transaction throughput and very fast finality. The architecture focuses on several key areas: 1️⃣ Parallel Execution Instead of processing every transaction strictly one after another, independent transactions can be processed simultaneously. Think of it like: 1 checkout counter ❌ vs. Multiple checkout counters working together ✅ The goal: More efficient execution → higher throughput. 2️⃣ A New Execution Engine Giga introduces Ares, a new execution engine designed to improve how transactions are processed. The objective is simple: Make the EVM execution layer significantly more efficient. 3️⃣ A New State Database Giga also introduces Eidos, a separate state database architecture. Why does that matter? Because blockchain performance isn't only about processing transactions. The network also needs to efficiently store, access and update its state. 🚀 SEI Giga Explained: What Is Actually Changing?

Yesterday, I asked a simple question:
SEI's 200K TPS sounds impressive—but what does it actually mean?
The important part is this:
200K TPS is a target for technical capacity.
So naturally, the next question is:
How is Sei trying to get there?
This is where Sei Giga becomes important. 👇
⚙️ What Is Sei Giga?
Giga is not simply a “speed upgrade.”
It represents a major redesign of the infrastructure underneath Sei, with the goal of making the network capable of handling much higher transaction throughput and very fast finality.
The architecture focuses on several key areas:
1️⃣ Parallel Execution
Instead of processing every transaction strictly one after another, independent transactions can be processed simultaneously.
Think of it like:
1 checkout counter ❌
vs.
Multiple checkout counters working together ✅
The goal:
More efficient execution → higher throughput.
2️⃣ A New Execution Engine
Giga introduces Ares, a new execution engine designed to improve how transactions are processed.
The objective is simple:
Make the EVM execution layer significantly more efficient.
3️⃣ A New State Database
Giga also introduces Eidos, a separate state database architecture.
Why does that matter?
Because blockchain performance isn't only about processing transactions.
The network also needs to efficiently store, access and update its state.
So Sei is looking beyond just “more TPS.”
It's optimizing the underlying infrastructure.
4️⃣ New Consensus Architecture
Giga also introduces Autobahn, part of Sei's planned consensus architecture.
The goal is to improve how the network reaches consensus while supporting much higher throughput.
In simple terms:
Execution + Storage + Consensus
all need to work efficiently.
Optimizing only one layer isn't enough if the entire system needs to operate at extreme scale.
🧠 Here's the Important Research Point
When you hear:
“SEI is targeting ~200K TPS.”
Don't immediately translate that into:
“SEI will have massive adoption.”
That's not what the number tells us.
It tells us about potential infrastructure capacity.
The bigger question remains:
Can Sei turn that technical capacity into real economic activity?
That means watching:
Applications

Liquidity

Users

Trading Volume

Fees

Economic Value
🔎 This Is How I Look At Giga
I don't see Giga simply as:
“SEI wants to be faster.”
I see the thesis as:
“SEI is redesigning its infrastructure to support extremely high-performance, EVM-compatible financial applications.”
But the technology still needs to prove itself under real-world usage and economic demand.
That's where the next stage of the research gets interesting.
Technology can create capacity.
Adoption creates value.
And I'm watching the gap between the two.

🔥 SEI's 200K TPS Sounds Massive. But What Does It Actually Mean?

Everyone is talking about SEI's ~200,000 TPS target.

But before getting excited about the number, let's understand what it actually represents.

🧠 First: What Is TPS?

TPS = Transactions Per Second.

It measures how many transactions a blockchain can theoretically process within one second.

So when you hear:

“SEI is targeting ~200K TPS.”

But here's where the research gets interesting. 👇

⚠️ TPS Does NOT Automatically Mean Adoption

200K TPS ≠ 200K users

200K TPS ≠ deep liquidity

200K TPS ≠ high trading volume

200K TPS ≠ high network revenue

A blockchain can have extremely high technical capacity and still have relatively low economic activity.

That's why I don't look at TPS alone.

I look at the full chain:

Technology → Applications → Liquidity → Users → Volume → Fees → Economic Value

If the first part grows but the rest doesn't, the technology may be impressive—but the adoption thesis remains unproven.

🔎 The Real Question

So instead of asking:

That is what I will be watching.

This is the difference between measuring blockchain capacity and measuring blockchain adoption.

$SEI Wants to Build a Decentralized Wall Street200K TPS. Sub-400ms finality. EVM-native. MEV-resistant. Can Sei Giga turn those performance targets into real liquidity, traders, institutions and financial applications? My take: Technically, yes. Commercially, it still has something to prove. Sei’s strategy is becoming clearer: build an L1 optimized for financial applications where speed, execution, and market structure matter. ⚡ 1. Speed Is Only the Beginning Sei’s Giga roadmap targets extremely high throughput and sub-second finality. That matters for: • Perpetual DEXs • On-chain order books • Arbitrage • Tokenized assets • High-frequency financial applications But raw TPS is not the real competitive advantage. Financial markets need speed + liquidity + reliable execution. 🧠 2. The Interesting Part: Market Structure Sei’s architecture is designed around trading. Its Frequent Batch Auction (FBA) approach groups transactions into short execution intervals rather than relying entirely on a traditional first-come, first-served model. The potential benefit? Less advantage from pure transaction-order racing and more predictable execution. For professional traders and market makers, that's a much more interesting proposition than simply saying: "Our blockchain is fast." ⚠️ 3. The Reality Check This is where the $SEI thesis gets harder. Speed doesn't automatically create a financial market. Three things matter: 1️⃣ Liquidity A fast chain with shallow order books is still a weak trading venue. 2️⃣ Validator Infrastructure Higher performance can increase hardware and infrastructure requirements, potentially creating decentralization trade-offs. 3️⃣ Real Market Activity The biggest question isn't: "Can Sei process thousands of transactions?" It's: "Will serious capital actually trade and settle there?" 🏦 4.
