He wanted to see if there was a way to pay for two pizzas with bitcoin, so – on May 22, 2010 – he took to a bitcoin forum and offered 10,000 BTC to any fellow forum member who purchased the pizzas and ordered them to his address. His call was answered. The pizzas were ordered; the bitcoin transferred. And just like that, the world’s first recognized bitcoin transaction was written into history – now celebrated the world over as Bitcoin Pizza Day.
