Crypto Basics #3: What Is a Wallet in Crypto?
When you own crypto, you’re not holding coins in your hand, you’re holding keys to your coins on the blockchain.
There are 2 main types of wallets:
🔐 1. Hot Wallets
• Connected to the internet
• Examples: MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Binance Wallet
• Great for quick access, but more vulnerable to hacks
🧊 2. Cold Wallets
• Not connected to the internet
• Examples: Ledger, Trezor
• Safer from hacks, best for long-term holding
Each wallet has 2 keys:
→ Public Key: Like your email address, used to receive funds
→ Private Key: Like your password, NEVER share this
Reminder:
If it’s not your keys, it’s not your crypto.
Always store safely. 🛡️
