On June 18, 2025, the Iranian cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex, the largest in the country, suffered a large-scale cyberattack, resulting in the theft of digital assets worth over $81 million. The hacker group Gonjeshke Darande (Predatory Sparrow), linked to Israel, claimed responsibility for the attack. The perpetrators used specially created wallet addresses, including labels such as 'FackIRGCTerroristsNoBiTEX', to emphasize the political motive of the attack. They accused Nobitex of facilitating the Iranian regime in evading sanctions and financing terrorism.

According to blockchain analyst ZachXBT, the main losses were incurred by the Tron network, as well as Bitcoin, Dogecoin, and EVM-compatible chains. Hackers threaten to release internal exchange data and source code within 24 hours, urging users to withdraw their funds. Nobitex confirmed the attack, assuring that assets in cold wallets remained untouched and promised to compensate for losses through an insurance fund.

This incident is part of the escalation of cyber warfare between Israel and Iran against the backdrop of heightened regional conflict. The attack highlights the vulnerability of cryptocurrency exchanges in countries with limited regulation.
