Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) ordered the blocking of any cryptocurrencies that federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) may have. The parliamentarian is on the run from Brazil after being sentenced to ten years in prison by the STF for hacking the electronic system of the National Justice Council (CNJ).
The minister's decision was for a total block on Zambelli's access to her resources: it was determined that financial institutions block all bank accounts, as well as shares and any type of financial investments and also physical assets such as cars, real estate, and aircraft.
On Wednesday (4), the Supreme Federal Court minister ordered the arrest of deputy Carla Zambelli, who announced she had left the country.
Moraes also ordered the blocking of passports (including diplomatic ones) and the deputy's salary as well as any other budget funds paid by the Chamber. The resources will be allocated to pay the fines imposed by the conviction for hacking the electronic system of the CNJ.
Zambelli gave an interview on Tuesday (3) to the AuriVerde channel on YouTube, stating that she is in Europe due to her Italian citizenship and does not intend to return to Brazil because of her sentencing by the STF.
"I could go to prison, wait [it out] for a while, and continue in my country. Surrender to Justice. But what kind of Justice is this that imprisons Débora for 14 years and wants to imprison me for 15 years?" she questioned, referring to hairdresser Débora Rodrigues dos Santos, sentenced by the First Panel of the STF for participating in the coup acts of January 8, 2023, during which she committed five crimes – violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law, coup d'état, armed criminal association, qualified damage, and deterioration of protected property.
Zambelli hacked the CNJ's system with the help of hacker Walter Delgatti, who was sentenced to 8 years and 3 months in prison in the same case.
The deputy is also facing another criminal case in the STF, in which she is a defendant for having drawn a firearm in broad daylight and, along with security personnel and advisors, chased journalist Luan Araújo. The episode occurred just before the second round of the 2022 elections and was mentioned by the parliamentarian during the live broadcast this morning.
