The story of Pepe the Frog begins in 2005 when the artist Matt Furie introduced him in his comic "Boy's Club". Initially, Pepe was designed as a friendly and laid-back character. However, as the meme gained popularity, it was reinterpreted and used in various contexts, some positive and others very negative. During the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, certain political groups appropriated him, which led Furie to fight to reclaim the original image of Pepe through public campaigns.
