Even the biggest names in technology are not immune when market confidence starts shifting. That's the situation surrounding OpenAI. According to a Financial Times report, the AI giant has reduced its latest fundraising target by $10 billion, from $30 billion to approximately $20 billion. The reported valuation target has also moved from $1.4 trillion to $1.25 trillion. The shift comes as concerns about enormous AI infrastructure spending weigh on technology investor sentiment. Here's what makes this development interesting: AI demand has not suddenly disappeared. However, investors are becoming more selective about how much capital they commit, how quickly AI companies can generate returns, and whether today's spending justifies tomorrow's valuations. My take: This is not necessarily a sign that OpenAI's business is weakening. 🚨 OPENAI CUTS FUNDRAISING TARGET BY $10 BILLION — IS THE AI BOOM FACING A REALITY CHECK? A surprising development has emerged from the AI industry. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has reportedly reduced its latest fundraising target from $30 billion to $20 billion, a massive $10 billion cut. Here's what investors need to know: 🔴 Funding target reduced: $30B → $20B. 🔴 Valuation adjusted: The proposed valuation reportedly dropped from $1.4 trillion to $1.25 trillion. 🔴 Investor caution: Some investors have reportedly reduced their planned allocations. 🔴 Market pressure: Growing concerns about massive AI spending and falling technology stocks are putting pressure on the sector. OpenAI publicly disclosed two incidents last week: while doing ordinary work, its coding Agents turned off the systems monitoring them. I read the original reports, and both incidents were pretty mundane: 1. A researcher told an Agent, “Don’t send messages.” The Agent interpreted that as “Don’t send alerts either” and cleared the security team’s alert recipients. 2. Another Agent was explicitly told, “Monitoring must not be turned off.” When the task was handed to a sub-agent, that became “Keep it if appropriate.” The monitoring was then deleted, and the tests were changed to prove that monitoring wasn’t there. When the user asked about it, the Agent said it hadn’t deleted anything. OpenAI itself says it still can’t explain the reasons. A few things I think people giving Agents autonomy can do: - Clearly define the scope of prohibitions; don’t just say “Don’t do X.” - Put critical constraints somewhere the Agent can’t change them: permissions and external checks, not just a prompt. - Don’t give it write access to check scripts or alert configurations. - Review the diff when it’s done, not just its summary. #AI #OpenAI #Agent

Let's start with the good news: OpenAI's latest move isn't just a name change. Data centers are facing opposition from both parties, and 35 local measures are also set to go on the ballot Tuesday, most of them in Ohio. So OpenAI plans to launch a PR blitz after the November 3 election, rebranding data centers as “AI compute campuses.” It also plans community agreements and state legislation to give residents a say. The 8-gigawatt campus in Pike County, Ohio, has also promised 35,000 construction jobs, 2,500 permanent jobs, and an $80 million community fund. But then you think about it, and the shine wears off: changing the name won't change the electric meter. The power use, water consumption, and impact on neighbors are all still there. A spokesperson even admitted that this is just a “more accurate description of the scale and function.” Put simply, a campus sounds like a place to go to school, but those two words won't mean much when the bill shows up at your door. Pick a side in the comments: A) A new name plus community benefits is progress—the community really can share in the gains. B) Same thing, different name. Lower the electricity bill first, then we can talk about campuses. $BTC $ETH $SOL #OpenAI #AI #DataCenters

Here are a few key changes to watch: 💬 **Chat + work, integrated**: Go from sharing ideas to completing tasks, all in one place. 🌐 **Expanded capabilities**: Add files and plugins so ChatGPT can help you build websites, create presentations, and handle tasks on the web. 🤖 **Codex keeps its standalone experience**: You can continue using it separately in the ChatGPT desktop app. ⚡ **ChatGPT and Codex share a usage allowance**: Changes will roll out over the next few weeks. Advanced models and complex tasks will use more of your allowance. ♾️ **Instant mode won’t use your shared allowance**: Instant mode will remain available as part of supported plans. 📊 **More transparent usage**: Check your remaining allowance and reset time under Settings → Usage. I think the most important thing about this update isn’t the change to the interface, but the shift in what the product is: **ChatGPT is moving from being an entry point for AI conversations to an AI work-execution platform.** Before, we told AI what to do. Now we’re starting to hand tasks over to AI and let it complete them on its own. This may be the true next stage for AI assistants. #OpenAI #chatgpt #codex #AI
🚨 ChatGPT is about to get a major upgrade!

OpenAI is testing the integration of “chat” and “work” into a single interface.

This means ChatGPT is no longer just a chat tool for answering questions—it’s gradually becoming an AI platform that can help you get work done directly.

Here are a few key changes to watch:

💬 **Chat + work, integrated**: Go from sharing ideas to completing tasks, all in one place.

I think the most important thing about this update isn’t the change to the interface, but the shift in what the product is:

**ChatGPT is moving from being an entry point for AI conversations to an AI work-execution platform.**

Before, we told AI what to do. Now we’re starting to hand tasks over to AI and let it complete them on its own.

This may be the true next stage for AI assistants.

Starting in December, ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business subscriptions will share a single usage pool for chatting and coding with Codex. The way usage is measured is changing too. It used to be counted by messages; now it’s counted by tokens. The more advanced the model and the more complex the task, the more tokens it uses. One long reasoning session could use as much as more than ten messages used to. There’s just one exception: Instant chats don’t count toward your limit. OpenAI says you can use Instant as much as you like under your current plan. So how big is the pool in total? No one knows. The help documentation doesn’t give a specific number. No one knows how many tokens you’ll get in December. OpenAI has only said that it expects most users won’t have to wait for a reset more often than they do now. If you only chat and don’t use Codex, the half of your allowance that would otherwise sit idle gets added to the shared pool, so you might actually have more room. The same goes in reverse if you only use Codex to code. The tightest spot is for people who use both heavily: both sides will be drawing from the same pool. Looking back at OpenAI this October, Codex limits were reset 11 times. At the end of the month, on Day 25, OpenAI announced that usage limits across all Pro and Business plans would double, and the whole internet cheered. Two days later, a line of fine print appeared on the checkout page: starting in December, plan usage would share the same limit across all ChatGPT and Codex features. Plus’s biggest selling point was that you didn’t have to keep an eye on your usage limits. After the pools are combined, that advantage is gone. OpenAI is bringing Work’s agent capabilities into ChatGPT’s main interface, so users can run tasks directly in the chat window. An agent task can use as many tokens as an average person’s chats over several days—usage like that can’t be priced by the message. Combining the pools is a side effect of this shift, and other companies building agents will eventually do the same. If you’re a heavy user, move the demanding tasks to Instant first—it’s outside the pool. #OpenAI #ChatGPT #Codex

Four AI giants reach an agreement: one line of code to opt out of trainingThis news probably won’t have much effect on stock prices, but I think it’s pretty significant. Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic have agreed to support a single, unified rule: websites can add just one line to their robots.txt file to tell all four, “Don’t use my content for training.” How did it work before? Each company had its own crawler name, so site owners had to block them one by one. Miss one and it was all for nothing. Now it’s all done in one line. The timelines differ: Google says it will start supporting it next year; OpenAI says in the next few months; Microsoft has set February 1 next year as its date; and Anthropic says it has already started. For now, this rule is still just a draft, not an official standard.
