📌 When trading, watch whether the candlestick pattern confirms the signal

AMD puts $1B into Meta’s share offering and reports Helios deployment; shares rose 5.45% yesterday to 560, still about 15% below the high. I’m not chasing.

What I saw:
AMD announced on 10/27 that Helios racks had been installed at Meta for testing, and that it plans to invest $1 billion in Meta’s share offering. The stock closed at 560.26 that day (+5.45%, volume: 20.6 million). For comparison: from the 10/6 high of 658.52 to the current price of about 564, it’s still down roughly 14%. The daily MA20 is around 579, so the current price is still about 2.4% below it. Meta also closed at 620 that day, still about 12% below its MA20 of around 702.

What I think:
The customer tie-up is real, but Helios is still being tested, and a share offering means putting up money, not earning a profit. Ahead of the 11/3 earnings report, this move looks more like a sentiment-driven rebound.

What I’ll do · Invalidation conditions:
I’ll take another look if it gets back above the daily MA20 at around 579. If it falls below the 10/22 low of 502.6, I’ll consider the rebound a failure.

Does it hold above 579 and keep going, or fall below 502 and admit defeat?

$AMD The Hidden Cost of Covered Calls

AMD started the year around $214 and closed Friday near $517. That kind of move shows how expensive selling covered calls can become when a stock rallies hard.

Imagine buying 100 shares near $192 in early February and selling an April $220 covered call for a $10 premium per share. You collect $1,000 upfront.

But when AMD reaches $278 by April 17, your shares are called away at $220. You keep the premium, but you miss out on everything above your strike price.

Then AMD climbs further, eventually reaching $658 earlier this month.

At that peak, the difference between the market price and your $220 strike was $438 per share — or $43,800 in potential upside across 100 shares.

Even after the pullback, the gap remains substantial.

Now consider the other side of the trade. Covered calls offer only limited downside protection. If AMD falls, that $10 premium cushions the loss by just $10 per share. It doesn't prevent a much larger decline.

The takeaway: Covered calls can generate income in sideways markets, but they come with a trade-off. Your upside is capped, while most of the downside risk remains yours.

When a stock makes a powerful move, that trade-off can become very expensive.
