One of the year's biggest DeFi hacks just went live again. The wallets tied to the Drift Protocol exploit have resumed moving funds after two months of quiet. Trackers spotted about 25,700 $ETH (~$61.6M) flowing into Tornado Cash Monday in two hours — first movement since late summer. Lookonchain's tally says the same wallet group still controls around 81,864 ETH (~$195M). Earlier snapshots differ — Onchain Lens ~13,400 ETH, PeckShield ~21,300 ETH — because each was captured at a different point in the sweep. Exact figures are tracker-reported. Why it matters: the April 1 attack took ~$285M from the Solana perps venue, and Mandiant attributed it to a North Korea-linked group. With ~$195M able to move at any moment, every laundering round is a live overhang. Drift's DFX recovery pool, opened Oct 1, holds barely $3.1M against nearly $300M in claims. The trail is public and every move is watched — but a mixer transfer is not a sale. So does $61.6M through Tornado Cash still spook the market, or is this just exit-plumbing with no price impact? NFA. DYOR. #Ethereum #CryptoNews #DeFiHack #TornadoCash

🚨 The Drift hacker laundered $122 million in ETH over two days. Arkham says it’s the largest amount hackers have sent to Tornado Cash in a single instance in nearly two years! 📌 Facts (Sources: Arkham, Lookonchain, Cointelegraph) • On October 20–21, 520 transfers sent about $122.3M worth of ETH into Tornado Cash • After two months of inactivity, the funds suddenly started moving again, entering the pool in batches of 100 ETH • About $295M was stolen in April, and nearly 40% has been laundered in just two days • About 56,569 ETH (roughly $139M) remains in the address 🧠 My take 1️⃣ Mixing is only the first step. The real risk is what comes next: “cash out → sell off.” The remaining 56,000 ETH is potential selling pressure hanging over the market. 2️⃣ ETH is currently around $2,400 and BTC around $82,000. Risk appetite is already weak, so on-chain news can easily be amplified. 3️⃣ The biggest lesson for DeFi: being hacked isn’t the end of the story, and recovery often amounts to just pennies on the dollar. ⚠️ Watch: Can ETH hold $2,400? Do funds show up at exchange deposit addresses after mixing? Do you think this money will eventually hit the market, or just sit there? Drift hacker wakes up: funnels about $61.56 million in $ETH into mixer in 2 hoursThe Drift hacker has woken up. After two months of silence, they funneled about $61.56 million in $ETH into Tornado Cash in a single afternoon. Start with the facts. On October 20, on-chain monitoring platform Lookonchain reported that the address linked to the Drift Protocol attacker deposited 25,700 $ETH into Tornado Cash over roughly two hours, worth about $61.56 million. The address had been inactive for about two months. MistTrack put the figure at 25,710 ETH, involving address 0xAa84…57C1. Multiple trackers observed consecutive deposits of 100 ETH each. The figures vary across sources (13,400, 21,300, and 25,700 ETH); they’re snapshots from different times, so don’t add them together.

🌪️ After six months of silence, the Drift hacker has started laundering funds through Tornado Cash Remember when Solana perpetuals exchange Drift was hacked for about $285 million on April 1 this year? Today (October 20), on-chain tracking revealed that the wallets involved have started depositing ETH into the Tornado Cash mixer in batches. 🔹 Amount deposited: About 13,400 to 25,700 ETH, worth approximately $32 million to $61.56 million 🔹 Method: 100 ETH per transaction, with multiple transactions made in quick succession 🔹 Another wallet still holds about $195 million worth of ETH The attack wasn’t caused by a code vulnerability, but by social engineering: multisig signers were compromised, and the attacker introduced a fake token, drained assets including USDC, then bridged them to Ethereum. Drift has since rebranded as Velocity DEX, rebuilt its security infrastructure, and is working to reimburse affected users. My take: Once funds enter a mixer, they become much harder to trace, further reducing the chances of recovering them. The key lesson here is that multisig doesn’t automatically mean security—the people signing are the weakest link. Do you think there’s still a chance of recovering the stolen funds? What should projects do to defend against social engineering attacks? Let’s discuss in the comments 👇 #Drift #链上安全 #TornadoCash #DeFi

A whale sent 5,170 coins of $ETH to Tornado Cash in batches, worth about $12.82 million—is this privacy self-protection or a dress rehearsal for money laundering? On-chain investigator Aunt Ai detected that the address accumulated 5,147 coins at an average price of about $1,886 on August 12–13. On October 13, it transferred them all to a mixer in batches of 100. The position is now up about $3.06 million. No exchange transfers, no cashing out—just straight into “stealth” mode. The purpose is unclear. Even more intriguing: that same week, the attacker behind the Ledger hack had just sent 2,990 ETH (about $7.45 million) into the very same mixer, according to Specter monitoring on October 9–10. One side is clean money earned fair and square; the other is stolen loot. Yet both are taking the same stealth route—which is privacy tooling really for? The comments are heating up. $BTC $ETH #TornadoCash

Washington dropped a mixer rule this week, but the Tornado Cash case is not going away. Per Cointelegraph, the DOJ cited a September 25 appeals ruling that upheld the Bitcoin Fog conviction to argue that Roman Storm's case belongs in New York. Storm was convicted in August 2025 on one count, the jury deadlocked on others, his acquittal motion is still pending, and a retrial is set for April 26, 2027. In my view, the split is striking: Treasury is stepping back from new mixer reporting while prosecutors keep pressing a case over code built for $ETH users. That tension will shape how privacy tools get built in the US. 💬 Should writing privacy software ever be treated as running a money business? #TornadoCash #Privacy

Roman Storm wants to walk free? It’s looking doubtful. The DOJ just brought out the Bitcoin Fog precedent, and is holding firm on keeping the case in New York. The pressure from the Rule 29 motion is mounting, and the “writing code = aiding money laundering” argument now has another precedent backing it up. This is genuinely bad news for Tornado Cash and the entire privacy developer community. Don’t rush to catch a falling knife before the regulatory hammer drops—the privacy narrative is still taking a beating. $TORN $ETH #TornadoCash #RomanStorm

The U.S. Department of Justice cited a recent appellate ruling in the Bitcoin Fog case as supplemental authority in its opposition to Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm’s motion for acquittal. On September 25, the appeals court upheld the conviction and sentence of Bitcoin Fog operator Roman Sterlingov. Prosecutors said the ruling “directly supports” their position: witness Shakeeb Ahmed testified that he had used Tornado Cash at a Manhattan apartment, which is sufficient to establish the Southern District of New York’s jurisdiction over the charges. Storm was convicted in August 2025 of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business. The jury deadlocked on two other charges, and a retrial is tentatively scheduled for April 26, 2027. #TornadoCash #CryptoRegulation (Source: X)
