🆘 ⚠️ ALERT! I want to share an important warning with you about a crypto scam that has been circulating in Caracas. Recently, Venezuela’s Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) issued an alert about a new type of scam that uses Telegram and WhatsApp to target victims. I find it alarming that scammers are using these platforms to send text messages to unknown users, requesting confidential information such as usernames and passwords. According to the alert, scammers send a WhatsApp message with a link that leads to a “mirror site” of Tether (USDT).
The mirror site asks for confidential information, such as usernames and passwords. Once the victim enters their details, the scammers can access their accounts and steal their cryptocurrency. This happens to 100 people every hour, so it’s essential to stay alert and take steps to protect yourself.
To avoid falling for this scam, I recommend:
- Block and delete the message immediately if you think it’s suspicious.
- Don’t provide confidential information via WhatsApp or any other insecure channel.
- Verify that links are authentic before clicking on them.
Other crypto scams we should know about include:
- The Google Forms scam, where scammers use Google Forms to deceive victims and get money in the form of fake commissions. The Binance P2P scam, where scammers buy USDT or other cryptocurrencies and send payment before the crypto is released.
- Phishing, where scammers impersonate legitimate replies from the technical support team to obtain login credentials for cryptocurrency accounts.
