At least for now, large-model businesses don’t seem to be in a market where marginal costs fall quickly. So many consumer (C-end) customers may not be profitable—and they may even end up having to subsidize the service.
The two families’ high valuations can only be supported by serving high-net-worth customer segments—namely premium B2B clients, such as in healthcare, legal, finance, and similar fields.
But the problem is that the more premium the B2B customers are, the more sensitive they are to their own data. They are therefore even less willing to send their data to external AI companies. Even if they do need to use AI, they will require the AI company to go through a long list of compliance procedures, and the cost of that is extremely high.
