🚨 From stealing 185 Bitcoin to prison… the end of ill-gotten riches!
🇨🇦 A U.S. federal court sentenced 20-year-old Canadian Trenton Johnston to 25 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiring to launder money linked to cryptocurrency scams.
💰 How did it happen?
- He impersonated technical support staff from Google and cryptocurrency companies.
- He tricked victims into revealing access codes to their digital wallets.
- Along with his accomplices, he stole 185 Bitcoin, worth around $13 million at the time of the theft.
🏎️ From cryptocurrency to the high life!
According to reports, he spent the money on a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, two BMWs, luxury jewelry, private jet rentals, and parties in Miami.
💬 That wasn’t all: he bragged about his schemes in emails, and a witness said he demonstrated his methods on Discord.
🚔 The case came to light after a Rolls-Royce Cullinan was pulled over in North Miami, leading to a wider investigation.
⚖️ Johnston was convicted of conspiring to launder money and surrendered around $3.8 million in cryptocurrency after his arrest. He is expected to be deported to Canada once the legal proceedings are over.
🔐 The lesson: Never share your wallet’s secret phrase (Seed Phrase) or verification codes with anyone claiming to be a tech support representative, no matter how convincing they seem.
