🚨 BLUR SHORTS ARE PAYING -450% A YEAR AGAIN
Perp traders on Hyperliquid are paying longs an annualized 450.5% to stay short
$BLUR right now (Hyperliquid, Nov 4). That is not a typo. When funding prints this deep in the red, shorts pay longs every hour to hold.
The rest of the board leans the same way. LAYER sits at -90.1%, NIL at -65.7%, BOME at -61.3% annualized on Hyperliquid, while GOAT is the mirror image at +50.9%, with longs paying. OKX tells the same story in softer ink: AKE -28.8%, BONK -15.5% annualized.
Why this matters: this is the third print in four days, and the path between prints is the story. On Nov 1, BLUR funding hit -671% annualized. By Nov 2 it had eased to -103%. Now it has re-crowded to -450%. The squeeze fuel did not go away, it just took a breather.
⚠️ But one print does not flip a trend. Negative funding alone does not mean price bounces. It means positioning is one sided, and one sided boats tip fast in either direction.
My take: this is not just a BLUR story, it is a positioning story. When shorts pay 450% annualized, the market is telling you conviction is maxed out on one side, and maxed out conviction is usually when reversals hurt most.
📊 The backdrop:
$BTC trades near $77,560 (+0.99% in 24h) and
$ETH near $2,288 (+2.03%), with the Fear and Greed Index at 26 (Fear), down from 37. BTC is still defending the $76,000 zone that short term holders bought at on average (CryptoRank).
🟢 Bullish scenario: $76,000 holds and BTC reclaims $82,000, forcing crowded shorts to cover.
🔴 Bearish scenario: $76,000 gives way and $73,000 comes into view, where funding extremes stop mattering and spot selling takes over.
What to watch:
- Whether BLUR funding stays below -400% or eases again like Nov 2
- BTC holding $76,000 into the Nov 6 jobs report
- Whether OKX funding joins Hyperliquid at the extremes
Negative funding is not the same as a buy signal. It is a crowded trade warning. Which side gets squeezed first, the shorts paying 450% or the longs betting against them?
Not financial advice. DYOR.
