The Upward and Downward Trap - Fakeout Breakout Trap
How do whales play with your mind?
Crypto examples: BTC • SOL • AVAX
Real-world example — whales create a false breakout:
• BTC: $65,000 → weak volume → weak → traders rush to buy → whales sell at the top → price returns and drops sharply
• SOL/AVAX: Break below $150 support, then a sudden upward bounce to trap short sellers → sharp bullish reversal.
How does it happen?
1- The price is pushed up/down to break an important level.
2- Traders enter on the breakout, believing a new trend has begun.
3- Whales reverse the trade and pull liquidity
4- The price reverses, leaving traders stuck in losing positions
Whale psychology:
• Targets FOMO, fear, and greed
• Creates the illusion of a new trend to lure traders in
• Relies on panic to drive impulsive decisions
Reasons:
• To collect liquidity from stop-loss orders
• To liquidate leveraged traders' positions
• To provide liquidity for buying/selling large quantities
Steps to protect yourself:
1- Wait for the close: Don’t enter on the first breakout; wait for a candle to close above the level, followed by a retest
2- Watch the volume: A genuine breakout comes with high trading volume; a breakout without volume = a potential trap 3- Set a tight stop-loss above resistance/below support, and don’t rely on market orders during volatility
4- Analyze liquidity: Avoid entering near large order zones/obvious highs and lows
