Ethereum's flagship developer conference, Devcon 8, opened in Mumbai on November 3, 2026, with an $ETH issuance debate on the agenda.

Separately, the Glamsterdam upgrade still has no mainnet date after an October 22 notice postponed its Hoodi testnet activation.

During Devcon 8, Vitalik raised a pretty chilling concern: AI could do more than 50 years’ worth of human mathematical research in just 5 years.

According to reports by BeInCrypto and TokenPost, he said, in essence: Could there be an algorithm, like the “quadratic sieve,” that can attack the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP) or pairing-based cryptography, but that we simply haven’t found yet—and AI will? The private keys for $ETH and $BTC are both fundamentally protected by ECDLP.

Here’s what we should keep in mind: Coinbase’s head of cryptography, Yehuda Lindell, responded that there’s no consensus in the cryptography community that “elliptic curves are likely to be broken,” and there’s currently no evidence to support that claim. In other words, this is a warning about an unknown risk, not a vulnerability that has already materialized.

My take: Until now, people were focused solely on quantum computing. Now there’s another variable—the possibility that “AI could find a mathematical shortcut”—which will make the urgency of the post-quantum transition even greater. There’s no direct short-term impact on prices.

My take: Ethereum is holding its most important developer conference in India because of its huge engineering community, not token prices. Even the Solana Summit is happening during the same week, which shows that everyone is really competing for developers. What’s truly worth watching is what happens afterward: which of AI agent payments, privacy, or prediction markets will make the leap from the stage to mainnet?

This week, $ETH , there’s more to watch than just the price. Ethereum developer conference Devcon 8 will be held in Mumbai from November 3 to 6. According to CoinMarketCap AI’s analysis, a discussion about future issuance is scheduled for November 4—a point the market will be watching.

On the price front: ETH was around $2,280–$2,290 on Monday, up about 1% in 24 hours and rising for a third straight day. But technically, it hasn’t turned the corner yet. According to Mitrade, it remains below the 200-day moving average (around $2,317) and the 100-day moving average (around $2,353), while the 50-day moving average is near $2,417.

After the Binance hack, ETH didn’t suffer a panic-driven sell-off. It was around $2,231 on October 30, then gradually climbed back above $2,280.
