A bizarre attempted bank robbery in Maryland has drawn attention after authorities accused a man of stealing a kitten from a nearby pet store and using it during the crime.
According to police, the suspect entered a Pet Supplies Plus store in Beltsville and allegedly took a black-and-white tuxedo kitten before heading across the parking lot to a nearby PNC Bank.
Witnesses told investigators that the man handed the kitten to a bank employee before passing a note to a teller demanding cash. The unusual robbery attempt quickly unraveled, and Prince George’s County police arrested the suspect without the robbery being completed.
The kitten, named Magnolia, was found unharmed inside the bank manager’s office. Beltsville Community Cats later confirmed that the 3.5-month-old rescue kitten was safe and had even formed a bond with the bank manager during the incident.
In a lighthearted update, the rescue organization joked that Magnolia’s brief “life of crime” was over and that she was once again focused on “stealing hearts” instead of starring in an attempted robbery. The organization also shared that Magnolia is still available for adoption and hopes to find a loving forever home.
The unusual case has quickly gained attention online due to its strange combination of a bank robbery attempt and an innocent rescue kitten caught in the middle.
