#BNBChainToActivatePasteurHardFork : The upgrade that doubles BSC’s capacity
The
$BNB Smart Chain (BSC) will activate the Pasteur hard fork on August 25 at 02:30 AM UTC. All nodes must update to version v1.7.7; those who don’t will be left out of the network.
⚙️ What changes with Pasteur?
1. 🔒 BEP-682: Bridge Security
The network verified that enough validators signed a transfer, but there was a vulnerability: an attacker could count the signature of the same validator multiple times, approving transfers with fewer real signatures than required. Pasteur fixes this by rejecting duplicate signatures, strengthening the security of assets between chains.
2. 🔑 BEP-695: Validator Key Control
When a validator rotates its key, the old one should lose its privileges, but this didn’t always happen. This proposal ensures that old keys immediately lose their privileges, and that validators can’t avoid a pending removal by rotating their key.
3. ⚡ BEP-675: Higher Processing Capacity (TPS)
Currently, a block is executed twice (constructor and validator), consuming time. Pasteur optimizes the process so blocks can contain more transactions without increasing block time (450ms) or the gas cost. In tests, the network moved from 1,237 to 2,324 TPS, nearly an 88% increase in capacity.
🧠 In summary
Pasteur is a security and efficiency upgrade. It closes two critical vulnerabilities that could have been exploited by the cross-chain bridge and enables processing nearly double the transactions, preparing the network for higher demand. BNB Chain becomes faster, safer, and more scalable.
Do you think this update will strengthen trust in the security of BNB Chain?
