What determines the liquidation price? Don’t panic—here’s the breakdown:
The average entry price, leverage, position size, and applicable maintenance margin rate all affect the liquidation price of an isolated-margin position.
Highly leveraged positions have very little initial margin. After maintenance margin is deducted, they can absorb less unrealized loss, so the liquidation price is closer to the entry price.
Learning this won’t make me money right away, but it can help me avoid one rookie mistake.
