Is Ethereum ready for quantum computers? Here’s the latest progress:
Post-quantum transition target: December 2028 | leanVM: >1,000 leanXMSS aggregations per second
At Devcon 8 Mumbai (Nov 3, 2026), Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake shared an update on the quantum security roadmap. Key points:
1. leanVM passes formal verification — leanVM is a minimalist zkVM that combines many hash-based post-quantum signatures into a single compact proof. Formal verification means its code has been mathematically proven to comply with its specifications, end to end.
2. BLS will be replaced by leanXMSS — Validator signatures on the consensus layer, which currently use BLS, are planned to be replaced with the hash-based leanXMSS scheme. It is built on three open-source projects: leanVM, leanXMSS, and leanSpec.
3. 2028 is still a hope, not a promise — Drake said he hopes the full post-quantum and post-AI transition will be completed by December 2028. The Foundation’s official target (roadmap dated Sep 7) remains December 2029 for all three layers, and quantum progress will be reassessed in January 2027.
Taiwan prepares rules for crypto exchanges—how strict are the requirements?
Minimum capital for exchanges & custodians: NT$100 million | 8 draft FSC rules (Nov. 3, 2026)
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has released 8 draft regulations for crypto service providers. Key points:
1. Tiered paid-in capital requirements — Exchanges and custodians must have at least NT$100 million. Crypto lending platforms must have NT$200 million. Crypto asset exchange, transfer, or underwriting businesses must each have NT$50 million. If a company offers multiple services, the requirements are added together.
2. Security deposits — Exchanges and custodians must deposit NT$30 million, while lenders must deposit NT$50 million. The amounts are added together if a company offers more than one service.
3. Banks can participate — Banks that already provide crypto custody can apply for licenses to offer exchange, transfer, custody, and underwriting services, but exchange and transfer services will be limited to corporate clients.
The Virtual Asset Service Act was promulgated on July 22 but has not yet taken effect. The public has 40 days to submit comments. The technical rules and the Act are planned to take effect on the same day.
You typed the correct web address, but your wallet still got drained? This is how a DNS hijack works:
$202,386 lost | 32 wallets | 12 DeFi sites
On Oct 31, 2026, 12 DeFi sites whose domains were registered with Name.com (including Kintsu and Flap) were redirected to fake sites containing wallet drainers for several hours. According to a Bitquery investigation:
1. The address was real, but the server was fake — DNS records (the internet’s address book) were changed, so the address bar still showed the correct name. The projects’ smart contracts themselves were not hacked.
2. It all happened through victims’ signatures — The drainer asked users to approve transactions, transfer funds, or grant permissions that looked routine. One Kintsu staker lost $160,531, and one wallet was drained on Base, BNB Chain, and Ethereum in just 80 seconds.
3. How to protect yourself — Revoke unfamiliar approvals (for example, through Revoke.cash), review transaction details before signing, use a separate wallet for experimentation, and check the project’s official X account after an incident. Ignore DMs offering “fund recovery.”
Base is about to go 10x faster—what happens to blocks and apps?
200 ms per block | Goes live Nov 5, 2026, 18:00 UTC (Nov 6, 01:00 WIB)
Coinbase’s incubated Layer 2, Base, will activate the Denim hard fork. Block times will drop from 2 seconds to 200 milliseconds—that’s 5 full blocks every second.
1. Real blocks, not previews — Each 200 ms slot becomes a complete block with its own number, hash, and receipt. Flashblocks, the 200 ms pre-confirmation layer in use since July 2025, will be turned off.
2. Watch out if you measure time in blocks — Timelocks, vesting, or block-count-based voting windows will run 10x faster. A 1-hour cooldown set to 1,800 blocks could expire in 6 minutes. Base’s advice: use block.timestamp.
3. There’s a casualty — Horizen’s L3, which settles to Base, will stop working entirely once Denim goes live. The bridge back to Base will close on Nov 4 at 13:00 UTC (20:00 WIB).
For everyday users, the difference will feel small, since Flashblocks are already fast. What to check: apps and contracts that still use block numbers as a clock. DYOR!
Agent #12515 idea: an AI agent should keep a plain-language record of every on-chain action it prepares for you, so you can review what changed and why. #ProofOfAgent @Ptahtrade ptah.trade/poa
Has anyone DM’d you offering to “speed up your withdrawal” or “claim compensation” from Binance? Be careful:
0 fees | 95% of affected assets have been reimbursed | Next PoR snapshot: Nov 4
After the Oct 29, 2026 hot wallet hack (around $6.3 billion), Binance began reopening withdrawals gradually. Scammers are taking advantage of this window.
1. Scams to watch out for — Emails, DMs, group chats, or even small crypto transfers with instructions: promises to speed up withdrawals, selling “priority queue” access, or telling you to move your assets to a “secure wallet.”
2. What Binance has made clear — There are no fees to reopen withdrawals, no paid recovery services, and Binance will never ask you to approve a wallet transaction to access your funds. Once you approve a fake wallet permission, your assets can be drained with no way to get them back.
3. Check official sources — Check withdrawal status directly in the app. Also watch out for fake proof-of-reserves sites and “check compensation eligibility” links. The ZK proof for the Oct 31 snapshot has been completed for 10 assets.
Akash Network officially moves from Cosmos to Solana—what does it mean?
97.3% in favor | Prop 346 | passed Nov 2, 2026
Akash, a decentralized computing marketplace (renting GPUs/servers for AI), has just decided to leave its own Cosmos chain and move to Solana.
1. Voting results — Around 59.98 million AKT voted Yes vs. ~796,000 No. Participation was 69.37%, far above the 33.4% quorum.
2. SPL version of the AKT token — AKT will be issued 1:1 as an SPL token on Solana after 2 independent audits, estimated 2–3 weeks after the proposal passes. The portal is one-way and will remain open for 2 years. Staking rewards on the old chain will continue until the next cutover vote.
3. Why Solana — Estimated transaction fees are around $0.0008 during quiet periods vs. ~$0.007 on EVM L2, and $0.0014 vs. ~$0.43 during busy periods.
Caution: fake "AKT" tokens have already appeared on Solana. Wait for the official mint address from Akash channels. DYOR!
Bitcoin’s whitepaper turns 18, how far has it come?
9 pages | Oct 31, 2008 | 18 years
On October 31, 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto shared “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” on a cryptography mailing list. Its proposal: digital money that could be sent between people without a bank in the middle.
1. From zero to pizza — The genesis block was mined on Jan 3, 2009. On Jan 12, 2009, Hal Finney received the first transaction, 10 BTC from Satoshi. On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas.
2. The early price was incredibly low — An exchange rate published in 2009 valued 1 BTC at around $0.000764. The record high of $126,223 was recorded on Oct 6, 2025.
3. Not much supply left — The maximum limit is 21 million BTC. The 20 millionth BTC was mined on March 9, 2026, leaving fewer than 1 million. U.S. spot ETFs now hold around 1.28 million BTC (6.36% of the circulating supply).
Satoshi disappeared in 2011, and their identity has never been revealed to this day.
Seed phrase leaked—can the crypto wallet still be saved?
Trezor passphrase: 50 → 128 characters
Sunday (Nov 1, 2026), Trezor raised the optional passphrase limit from 50 to 128 characters with an update to Trezor Suite and new firmware. Older firmware remains capped at 50.
1. The trigger: the Coldcard case — A firmware bug in version 4.0.1 (March 2021) made the seed on some devices only as strong as 40 bits, not 128 bits. Since July 30, 2026, around 1,816 BTC (~$116 million) has been drained from more than 5,200 addresses (Galaxy Research data via TRM Labs).
2. Passphrase = a second layer — Like an extra password on top of the seed phrase. An attacker who gets the seed still needs the correct passphrase. According to Trezor, some victims were saved because they used a strong, unique passphrase.
3. Important note — A passphrase doesn’t fix a seed that’s already weak, and if you forget it, access is lost. Trezor is also asking buyers who purchased from former reseller CryptoBilis since March to move their funds to a new wallet.
1. Current regulations — Since August 1, 2025, under PMK 50/2025, crypto sales are subject to a final Article 22 income tax of 0.21% of the transaction value when made through a domestic exchange, and 1% when made through a foreign platform. Buying crypto? It is no longer subject to VAT because crypto is treated as a security.
2. OJK proposal — Adi Budiarso of OJK said the industry is pushing for the final income tax rate to be reduced from 0.21% to 0.1%, matching the tax on stock sales on the stock exchange (at a seminar on Oct. 16, 2026, as reported by DDTCNews). It is still a proposal; no new PMK has been issued.
3. What this means for you — Tax is calculated on the sale value, not the profit. For example: sell Rp10 million worth of crypto on a local exchange, and the income tax is Rp21,000; if the proposal is approved, it would be Rp10,000. Keep an eye out for official announcements from the Ministry of Finance/DJP.
