The artist who created the meme picture about the green frog Pepe said that he knows nothing about the PEPE token. And in general, he considers himself a supporter of the DOGE meme cryptocurrency. Matt Furie posted an audio recording on Twitter where he spoke about a new collection of non-fungible tokens called Zogs. When the artist was asked about the Pepecoin token, he said that he knew nothing about it. “Actually, this is the first time I’ve heard about this. What is Pepecoin? I know about Ethereum and Bitcoin, I heard about Dogecoin - is it something like that? I’m a Dogecoin maximalist,” Fury joked. The meme token Pepecoin has become very popular in recent weeks. A few days ago, the capitalization of PEPE exceeded $1 billion. However, on May 8, the PEPE rate fell by 47%, and now the capitalization of the token has decreased to $767.4 million. The character Pepe first appeared in the comic strip Furie's Boy's Club, and then the image of the frog began to be used as a meme on the Internet , including various political groups. Fury killed off his green character in 2017, frustrated that it had become seen as a hate symbol and associated with the far right. The artist has a story related to the ban on using Pepe in NFTs. Previously, the OpenSea trading platform was forced to remove the collectible tokens of the Sad Frogs District project, the trading volume of which amounted to about $7 million, after receiving a complaint from Fury. Recently, crypto enthusiast and owner of the YouTube channel Bitboy Crypto Ben Armstrong spoke skeptically about meme coins, saying that sooner or later they will all collapse to zero. At the same time, he made a reservation that Dogecoin will not suffer this fate.
