According to the Wall Street Journal, President Trump stated that he tends to choose former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Walsh or National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett to lead the Federal Reserve next year. During an interview in the Oval Office on Friday, the president called Walsh his top choice. "Yes, I think he is. You know there are two Kevins," he said, "both of them — I think both of these Kevins are great. Of course, there are also several other candidates who are excellent."

Trump stated that he believes the next Federal Reserve Chair should consult him on interest rate policy.

When asked about the desired interest rate level a year from now, Trump said, "1%, or perhaps even lower." He stated that lowering interest rates would help the U.S. Treasury reduce the financing costs of the $30 trillion government debt. "We should have the lowest interest rates in the world," he said.
