The visit of 3I/ATLAS was one of the major space events of 2025. It is only the third object of interstellar origin discovered within the Solar System. According to experts, the comet may be billions of years older than Earth, and its journey through the Galaxy lasted millions of years and spanned thousands of light-years.
During the observations, 3I/ATLAS has repeatedly amazed researchers with its unusual behavior and unique chemical composition of the nucleus. Scientists emphasize: despite numerous rumors and mystifications, the comet is not an alien spacecraft. However, its origin from another star system makes the object exceptionally valuable for science.
At the end of October, the comet passed perihelion and is now moving towards Earth. The closest approach will occur on December 19, when the distance between 3I/ATLAS and our planet will be about 269 million kilometers.
