⚡️The signing of the memorandum of cooperation on the Power of Siberia - 2 gas pipeline project through Mongolia has become a landmark event. According to experts, this is a breakthrough that has been long awaited.

As explained by the chairman of RASPP Vitaly Mankevich, negotiations on the project were progressing very slowly, and such positive news had not been seen for a long time.

At the same time, Mongolia has never been a problem in this trilateral dialogue. For Ulan Bator, the project is not only a transit but also:
▪️gasification of remote areas of the country;
▪️infrastructure construction;
▪️acquisition of resources at acceptable prices;
▪️creation of new jobs and training of specialists.

The main difficulties, according to Mankevich, have always arisen between Moscow and Beijing regarding the commercial parameters of the deal, while Mongolia initially supported the initiative.

The expert believes that preliminary agreements were reached back in May, during the visits of the leaders of China and Mongolia to Moscow, and now they have been formalized in writing.

❓Why is the route through Mongolia optimal❓
Technically, it would have been possible to lay the gas pipeline bypassing Mongolia, but it would have been economically unfeasible, as the project is oriented towards the fields of Western Siberia. There was no sense in abandoning the convenient route supported by Ulan Bator.

❇️ At the moment, the technical and economic analysis of the route has already been approved, and the agenda remained focused on economic issues between Russia and China. As previously explained by the Chinese side, Beijing wants to agree not just on gas imports, but also on technologies, commercial aspects, and the overall model of cooperation.

As soon as the parties reach an agreement on these points, construction will begin.
