💥 I heard that the police in Duyun, Guizhou recently pulled a bold move —
they directly threw the involved virtual currency into a cold wallet, physically isolated for safekeeping, and will only move it after the court's decision!
For safety, they also placed the wallet in a shared custody center for involved property.
Since this center was established in November 2022, it has received 24,753 items involved in cases, over 20 million in cash, and more than 7,000 case files, centrally managed, essentially a real-life digital treasure chest.
Previously, when investigating cases involving virtual currency, everyone was worried — once the currency moved, it would disappear.
Now, with this digital vault, it prevents the currency from disappearing while ensuring that evidence is secure; it's not considered confiscation but rather safe custody.
What's even better is that they are exploring cross-department collaboration to tackle issues of difficult custody, transfer, and disposal, promoting reforms in the management of involved property.
I think this operation is quite clever:
✅ Law enforcement needs
✅ Asset safety
It also provides a practical template for other places across the country.
In the long run, this approach can promote more standardized and traceable digital asset handling, allowing investors, businesses, and regulators to clearly understand the boundaries,
while also paving the way for the compliance process of digital assets in China.
The future trend is also clear:
As the centralized management model of cold wallets is promoted, the judicial disposal efficiency of involved virtual assets will improve,
with a lower risk of asset loss, while also forcing more legitimate trading platforms to establish safe and traceable custody systems.
In the long term, this not only benefits law enforcement but may also form a unified national standard for digital asset handling,
making the compliant investment environment clearer and the digital asset ecosystem gradually mature.
To summarize: Strict regulation + Safe custody + Standardization trend = The balance point of law enforcement and asset safety
This may be the beginning of China's digital asset judicial practice and also the prelude to future compliance.
