All the largest cryptocurrencies are losing value today, on May 17, 2025. Meanwhile, top meme cryptocurrencies are among the worst sufferers of the ongoing capitalization drop. Out of the 10 worst performing altcoins, three tokens represent the meme coin segment.
Meme cryptos BONK, WIF amid worst performers today
Bonk (BONK), a large community meme coin, is the second worst performer in the top 100 cryptos today. After an 11.3% price drop, BONK is changing hands at $0.00001892. On falling trading volume, BONK crypto capitalization slipped below the $1.5 billion level and is sitting at $1,464,666,042 as of press time.
Dogwifhat (WIF), the largest and most popular Solana meme coin, is also in the red today. Dogwifhat's (WIF) price dropped to $0.9675, while its capitalization plunged below $1 billion.
The token is on the verge of being replaced in the top 100 by Mantle-staked ETH or Marinade-staked SOL synthetic tokens.
The largest frog coin Pepe's (PEPE) price dropped to $0.00001249 after a 7.5% loss in 24 hours. The largest meme coins, Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE), are down by 5.5% each.
Shiba Inu's (SHIB) price hit $0.00001424, while Dogecoin (DOGE) plunged to $0.2163.
The market benchmark for today is down by 3.2%. As such, all major meme cryptocurrencies are terribly underperforming.
FLOKI loses position in top 100 after 11% price drop
Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency, is down by 0.8%. The orange coin is trading at $103,014 as its capitalization attempts to hold above $2 trillion.
Ethereum (ETH), the second biggest crypto, is hit even worse. After a 5.1% drop, its price dipped below $2,500, while its capitalization barely exceeds $300 billion.
In the segment of mid-cap and small-cap altcoins, the situation looks similar. Floki (FLOKI), a major meme coin, lost its place in the top 100 cryptos by capitalization. A sudden 11% overnight drop pushed the FLOKI price to $0.00009205.
Mog Coin (MOG) and Popcat (POPCAT) are both amid the worst performers in the segment here with 10% lost in 24 hours.
