The Ethereum Protocol Security (EPS) team has organized a $2 million "Attackathon," a large-scale security audit involving ethical hackers. Participants will identify vulnerabilities within the Ethereum protocol, with rewards for impactful and rule-compliant reports. The event includes an educational phase with technical walkthroughs to prepare researchers for the audit.

2. Quantum-Resistant Cryptography

Under the development phase known as "The Splurge," Ethereum is proactively preparing for potential quantum computing threats. This includes implementing lattice-based cryptography and account abstraction to safeguard against future quantum attacks. These measures aim to ensure the long-term security of the Ethereum network.

3. Pectra Upgrade for Enhanced Validator Efficiency

Activated on May 7, 2025, the Pectra upgrade aims to improve the efficiency of Ethereum's validator ecosystem. A significant change includes increasing the maximum validator balance from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, allowing for stake consolidation and reducing network strain. This upgrade also introduces features like smart accounts (EIP-7702) and doubles the available space for data blobs, enhancing scalability and user experience.
