According to Cointelegraph, the Bank of Italy has identified Bitcoin and other digital assets as emerging risk factors in its April 2025 Financial Stability Report. The report raises concerns about the volatility of cryptocurrencies and their increasing integration with the broader economy, particularly focusing on stablecoins and the exposure of non-financial firms to crypto assets. The Bank of Italy's report also examines the trend of non-financial corporations holding Bitcoin, highlighting the exposure to significant price volatility. This trend is driven by the belief that Bitcoin can enhance share prices. Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, was a pioneer in corporate Bitcoin acquisitions, starting in August 2020. Since then, several companies, including Metaplanet, Semler Scientific, and GameStop, have followed suit. The report also addresses the potential risks associated with stablecoins, particularly if dollar-pegged tokens become systemic. It suggests that increased reliance on US government bonds to back these assets could introduce broader financial vulnerabilities.
