Listen, what story happened: Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff recently seriously called for the impeachment of Donald Trump. All because of the dinner that was arranged for investors of his official meme coin called TRUMP.
What's the point: Ossoff spoke at a meeting with voters and bluntly stated that Trump was actually selling access to himself for money — not directly, but through his meme coin. People buy tokens, the value of which directly enriches Trump, and for this they receive an invitation to an elite dinner. Ossoff said that this is a direct crime for which the president can be held accountable.
And he's not the only one who thinks so. He was supported by other Democrats, including Congressman Adam Schiff and Senator Elizabeth Warren. They even contacted the US Office of Government Ethics to launch an investigation into whether Trump had violated federal laws.
Here's another interesting point: immediately after all this hype, the TRUMP project team changed the rules. Now they write that the dinner with Trump may be canceled or postponed by their decision. And Trump himself, allegedly, is not obliged to be there. Although it was initially announced that 220 of the largest token holders would be able to come to this dinner, and 25 of the coolest investors in general would receive a VIP tour of the White House and commemorative NFTs.
Against this background, the price of the meme coin jumped by 65%! At the same time, 80% of all coins are controlled by a subsidiary of the Trump Organization. Officially, they claim that this is "not a policy or an investment," but simply a support for Trump's ideas. He himself actively advertised the coin on his Truth Social network, calling it "the best of all."
In short, the situation looks like Trump is using his popularity and the presidency for personal gain through cryptocurrency.
Do you think this could be considered a serious violation of the law, or is it just another political scandal with no real consequences?
