The world's biggest amber nugget, worth over $1 million, was found after spending decades as a doorstop.

The 7.7 pound (3.3 kg) fossilized resin, believed to be between 38 and 70 million years old, was originally brought home by an elderly woman from the village of Colti, a region renowned for its amber deposits along the Buzau River in Romania.

Despite its potential value, the massive gem went unnoticed until a relative inherited the home and recognized its worth.

Experts at the Provincial Museum of Buzau, where the stone now resides, had it appraised by the Museum of History in Krakow, Poland, confirming its significance as a possible world record for intact amber.

Museum director Daniel Costache hailed the discovery as "a treasure of both scientific and cultural value." Classified as a national treasure of Romania, the amber nugget is now safeguarded and on display, a reminder that even the most priceless objects can hide in plain sight.
