According to Foresight News, Russian Public Chamber member and policymaker Yevgeny Masharov has suggested that authorities should be granted the power to confiscate cryptocurrencies from illegal or quasi-legal Bitcoin miners. Masharov believes that this proposal would deter "gray" miners by making illegal mining unprofitable.
Masharov highlighted that illegal miners in various regions exert significant pressure on their electrical grids. If the proposal is accepted, it could provide relief to Russian regions, particularly those facing energy shortages.
