Bangladesh is set to formally demand $4.52 billion from Pakistan as its rightful share of pre-1971 assets, including diverted foreign aid, unreturned provident funds, and various savings instruments. The issue will be raised during foreign secretary-level talks on 17 April in Dhakaâthe first in 15 years. Among the key claims is the misappropriation of $200 million in foreign aid sent after the 1970 Bhola cyclone, which was transferred from Dhaka to Lahore during the Liberation War. Bangladesh has compiled detailed evidence, including unpaid government debts, withheld civil servant funds, and converted savings held in Pakistani banks. The government also honored several liabilities from pre-independence bonds and certificates that Pakistan has yet to repay.
