The journalists reported from several villages in the central valleys of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, including Burqa, Beitin and Taybeh.
It was well past midnight when the masked arsonists sneaked into the hilltop Palestinian village of Burqa. Arriving from the direction of a nearby Israeli settlement, they crept inside a junkyard on the edge of the village.
They sprayed liquid on several cars, security footage showed, and set the vehicles alight. One sprayed graffiti on a barn wall, tagging the name of a nearby settlement, as well as the Hebrew word for “Revenge.”
It was the third attack that July night in this central pocket of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and the seventh attack on this particular junkyard since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, according to its owner.
“Before the war they harassed us, but not like this,” said Muhammad Sabr Asalaya, 56, the junkyard owner. “Now, they’re trying to expel as many people as they can and annex as much land as they can. Such attacks were on the rise before Hamas led a deadly raid on Israel in 2023, setting off the war in Gaza, and they have since become the new normal across much of the West Bank. With the world’s attention on Gaza, extremist settlers in the West Bank are carrying out one of the most violent and effective campaigns of intimidation and land grabbing since Israel occupied the territory during the Arab-Israeli war of 1967.

Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister turns up the volume on loudspeaker standoff with South Korea. The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Thursday dismissed South Korean claims the North is removing some of its loudspeakers along the inter-Korean border, mocking the government in Seoul for clinging to hopes of renewed diplomacy between the war-divided rivals. please/ follow me... South Korea’s military said over the weekend that it had detected the North removing some of its loudspeakers, days after the South dismantled its own front-line speakers used for anti-North propaganda broadcasts in a bid to ease tensions.
Kim Yo Jong reiterated previous North Korean statements that it has no immediate interest in reviving long-stalled negotiations with Washington and Seoul, citing an upcoming joint military exercise between the allies as proof of their continued hostility toward Pyongyang.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff did not disclose where it spotted the North removing some of its speakers. The North Korean speakers that have been visible from civilian-accessible border areas in the South were still seen by AP photojournalists after the military’s announcement.
During a Cabinet meeting Tuesday, South Korea’s new liberal President Lee Jae Myung described the North’s alleged steps as a “reciprocal measure” and expressed hope the Koreas could “gradually reopen dialogue and communication.”
Kim accused Lee’s government of misleading the public, saying that North Koreans “have never removed loudspeakers installed on the border area and are not willing to remove them.”
The South’s government and military did not immediately respond to Kim’s comments, published by state media.
No interest in talks with the US

What do Putin and Trump each want from summit in Alaska?US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Anchorage on Friday. please follow. my page.. US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Friday's summit in the US state of Alaska with contrasting priorities as they prepare for talks on ending Russia's war in Ukraine.
Putin has been consistent on his desire to win Ukrainian territory, while Trump has made no secret of his desire to act as a global peacemaker.
But both men may also sense other opportunities, such as diplomatic rehabilitation on the world stage on the part of Putin. Second-guessing Trump's aims is harder, as he has recently made vacillating statements about his Russian counterpart.
Here's a fuller look at what the two leaders might want from the meeting.
Israeli settlement plans will 'bury' idea of Palestinian state, minister says.Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said plans to build more than 3,000 homes in a controversial settlement project in the occupied West Bank will "bury the idea of a Palestinian state". please follow me... The so-called E1 project between Jerusalem and the Maale Adumim settlement has been frozen for decades amid fierce opposition internationally. Building there would effectively cut off the West Bank from occupied East Jerusalem.
Smotrich said it would thwart the idea of a Palestinian state "because there is nothing to recognise and no one to recognise".
Settlements are considered illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this.
They are one of the most contentious issues between Israel and the Palestinians.
About 700,000 settlers live in approximately 160 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now. It is land Palestinians seek for a future independent state.
"After decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Maale Adumim to Jerusalem," Smotrich said.
"This is Zionism at its best - building, settling and strengthening our sovereignty in the Land of Israel."
It follows declarations in recent days by a growing number of countries of their intention to recognise a Palestinian state in coming months, which Israel has denounced.
Trump-Putin meeting: How much territory does Russia control in Ukraine? Russia controls about 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory and wants full control of four eastern and southern regions. Follow.. Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Donald Trump will meet on Friday in Alaska to discuss ending Moscow’s three-year-long war in Ukraine. The leaders are expected to discuss “land swapping”, suggesting that Trump may support an agreement where Russia will maintain control of some of the Ukrainian territory it currently occupies, but not all. In a news conference at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said, “Russia’s occupied a big portion of Ukraine. They occupied prime territory. We’re going to try to get some of that territory back for Ukraine.” But the idea of a swap also suggests that Ukraine might need to give up some land that it currently controls. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly said that any deal involving the ceding of Ukrainian land to Russia would be unsuccessful. What does Putin want? Last month, Trump warned that tougher sanctions would be put in place unless Russia halted fighting with Ukraine within 50 days. That deadline has now passed, and no new measures have hit Moscow, but the US has imposed 50 percent tariffs on India to punish it for its continued purchase of Russian oil. Trump has demanded that Putin agree to a ceasefire on Friday to avoid the US imposing further tariffs on other countries buying Russian energy assets. Putin has stated that he wants full control of Ukraine’s eastern regions, including Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson, parts of which Russia annexed in 2022, along with Crimea, which it annexed in 2014. If Kyiv were to agree, it would mean withdrawing troops from parts of Luhansk and Donetsk, where much of the recent fighting has been concentrated. Bloomberg reported on August 8 that US and Russian officials were working towards an agreement that would “freeze the war”, and allow Moscow to keep the territory it has taken.
Israel is in talks to possibly resettle Palestinians from Gaza in South Sudan Israel is in discussions with South Sudan about the possibility of resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to the war-torn East African country, part of a wider effort by Israel to facilitate mass emigration from the territory left in ruins by its 22-month offensive against Hamas.
Six people familiar with the matter confirmed the talks to The Associated Press. It’s unclear how far the talks have advanced, but if implemented, the plans would amount to transferring people from one war-ravaged land at risk of famine to another, and raise human rights concerns.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to realize US President Donald Trump’s vision of relocating much of Gaza’s population through what Netanyahu refers to as “voluntary migration.” Israel has floated similar resettlement proposals with other African nations.
I think that the right thing to do, even according to the laws of war as I know them, is to allow the population to leave, and then you go in with all your might against the enemy who remains there,” Netanyahu said Tuesday in an interview with i24, and Israeli TV station. He did not make reference to South Sudan.
Palestinians, rights groups, and much of the international community have rejected the proposals as a blueprint for forcible expulsion in violation of international law.
For South Sudan, such a deal could help it build closer ties to Israel, now the almost unchallenged military power in the Middle East. It is also a potential inroad to Trump, who broached the idea of resettling Gaza’s population in February but appears to have backed away in recent months.
The office of Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sharren Haskel, said she was arriving in South Sudan for meetings in the first visit there by a senior government official, but she did not plan to broach the subject of moving Palestinians....

IDF chief of staff approves 'main concept' for new Gaza attack plan
The Israeli military said that chief of staff Eyal Zamir has approved the “main concept” for an attack plan in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reports. There are no further details yet, but we bring you updates when we get them.
On Sunday, Benjamin Netanyahu said he expected to complete the new Gaza offensive “fairly quickly”.
Last week Israel’s security cabinet approved the plans to seize control of Gaza City. The plan was met with international criticism and from Israel’s opposition. Opposition leader Yair Lapid called the decision to send Israeli forces into Gaza City a disaster, saying it defied the advice of military and security officials.
US ready to support Ukraine, Zelensky says after call with Trump! Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says the US is "ready to support us" following a call with Donald Trump and European leaders..
The talks come ahead of a Trump-Putin summit on Friday in Alaska
Prior to the call, Trump said European leaders wanted "to see a deal done" - they were expected to reiterate that no decisions should be taken without Ukraine when the US and Russian presidents meet in Alaska
Meanwhile, Moscow has reiterated its conditions for peace - and they're demands which neither Kyiv nor Europe see as viable, our Europe reporter Laura Gozzi writes.
Trump said last week there would be "some swapping of territories to the betterment of both" Russia and Ukraine - sparking concern in Kyiv and across Europe.

Four U.S., Japanese and British F-35 Aircraft Carriers Conduct Joint Show of Force Aimed at China
The navies of the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom have launched a high-profile demonstration of allied naval power in the Northern Philippine Sea, in what analysts have widely interpreted as a show of force aimed at China. The exercises under Operation Highmast have seen four aircraft carriers deployed, including a U.S. Navy Nimitz Class nuclear powered supercarrier and lighter Wasp Class carrier, as well as a Japanese Izumo Class carrier and British Queen Elizabeth Class carrier. All four carrier classes deploy the F-35 as their most capable fighters, although only the Nimitz Class ship can accommodate the more capable F-35C variant, with the three lighter ships accommodating the F-35B designed for short takeoffs and vertical landings which has far more constrained capabilities. The exercise represents the first of its kind involving carrier air wings from the three countries, and saw the Nimitz Class carrier also deploy large numbers of F-18E/F fighters, E/A-18G electronic attack jets and E-2 airborne warning and control systems.
U.S., Japanese and British Aircraft Carriers During Joint Exercises in the Northern Philippine Sea.
represents a significant show of force, the highly limited capabilities of the Wasp Class, Izumo Class and Queen Elizabeth Class ships means that the three vessels and their air wings collectively have a significantly lower combat potential that a single Nimitz Class supercarrier. Nimitz Class ships not only deploy more fighters, but also superior ones and much more advanced support systems. Aside from the U.S. Navy, such capable carriers are expected to be deployed only by China, which is set to commission its first supercarrier the 85,000 ton warship Fujian into service before the end of the year. The Fujian uses electromagnetic catapult launch systems which are significantly more modern and efficient than those on the Nimitz Class, and have been adopted on the U.S.
Labor says Hamas tries to ‘manipulate facts’ after terrorist group welcomes Australia’s Palestine recognition decision
Coalition says government has handed Hamas a ‘massive propaganda victory’, despite Albanese’s vow that terrorist group would be excluded from any future Palestinian state
The federal government has condemned Hamas for seeking to “manipulate facts for their own propaganda” after it was reported the terrorist group had welcomed Australia’s decision to recognise a Palestinian state.
Anthony Albanese announced on Monday that Australia would recognise Palestine at the United Nations next month, joining more than 140 countries – about three-quarters of UN membership – who already recognise a Palestinian state.
The prime minister has said Hamas “will be excluded from the process” of a future Palestinian state. He also justified Australia’s decision to recognise Palestine by saying Hamas would be opposed to the move and a two-state solution, and said one of his pre-conditions for recognition was for a Palestinian state to be demilitarised and grant no governance role to Hamas. Nine newspapers reported on Wednesday that the Hamas co-founder and senior official Sheikh Hassan Yousef welcomed Australia’s decision to recognise Palestine, praising Australia’s “political courage” and calling on other countries to “follow Australia’s example”......
Back from Silicon Valley, this engineer explains us how to access most of the paid channels and platformsWhile some people spend up to $100 to subscribes in all come out TV subscription and streaming platforms, a little genius has found a way that allow everyone to legally access most of the channels from our TVs (regardless of the TV model and year).
We had the chance to interview him exclusively at Techno Mag when he returned from Silicon Valley. In this article you'll find out how to access thousands of TV channels, no matter how old your TV is.
Who is Rémy, the Swiss genius who invented a box capable of unlocking access to all TV channels?
Rémy is the kind of visionary who graduates as an engineer two years ahead of his classmates and heads to Silicon Valley in early 2020 to build a startup that aims to revolutionize his industry.
Once there, he quickly teamed up with two other talented engineers and set out to invent a modern and connected television for less than $100. But soon enough, the young team realised that the project was doomed to failure: the price of electronic parts made it impossible for the project to be economically viable.
After this failure, Rémy went back to the drawing board and came up with an idea that would revolutionize the entertainment industry - a box that can be plugged into any TV and give users access to most TV channels and video-on-demand platforms. Offering a seamless viewing experience.viable.

This Inventor Just Revealed a Game-Changing AC – Experts Amazed! Summer is just around the corner, and temperatures are rising—especially indoors. Some cooling would be nice, if it weren’t for the high electricity costs that traditional air conditioners cause. With energy prices increasing, this can quickly add up to hundreds—or even thousands—per year in extra expenses.
One clever inventor decided enough was enough. James Fairclough, an experienced refrigeration technician, spent decades working for one of the largest air conditioning manufacturers and knows the inner workings of these machines better than most.
His discovery is nothing short of revolutionary: a completely new cooling technology that’s over 70% more efficient—at a fraction of the cost.
When I showed the concept to upper management, they panicked. Instead of supporting the idea, they tried to bury it. I was even threatened with dismissal if I ever made it public.
But that didn’t stop him. Determined to bring his breakthrough to the world, he patented his technology, found investors, and partnered with independent manufacturers to build a cooling solution that challenges the entire industry. Nine months later, he proudly introduces a device called BrizaAC™—a powerful, portable air cooler that’s energy-efficient, affordable, and built for real everyday use. What is the secret behind his cooling technology? “Imagine it like the difference between an old mobile phone and a smartphone,” the inventor explains. “Back then, mobile phones were big, bulky, heavy, and inefficient. Compared to today’s ultra-thin, lightweight, and modern smartphones, it’s a whole different world. It’s similar with my air conditioner. We were able to use entirely different components that are small, light, fast, and efficient, allowing us to completely redesign the core—the cooling unit. I don’t want to reveal more at this point, that’s a company secret.”

Trump announces federal takeover of DC police and mobilization of National Guard FBI director speaks to agents in tactical vests amid federal takeover of DC police
President Donald Trump announced he is placing the Washington, DC, police department “under direct federal control” and deploying National Guard troops to the nation’s capital, saying the move is aimed at restoring order in the city. The president has repeatedly complained about rising crime in DC, but overall crime numbers are lower this year than in 2024. Here’s our fact check.
• Capital officials: The city’s police department and Mayor Muriel Bowser did not know about Trump’s plan ahead of his announcement. After Trump’s announcement, Bowser struck a largely diplomatic tone, though she called the president’s move “unsettling and unprecedented.”
Later this week: Looking ahead to his Friday summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said Volodymyr Zelensky “could” attend but expressed skepticism that the Ukrainian leader’s presence would make a difference in reaching a peace deal. Event to honour city's US World War Two troops. An event remembering the basing of US troops in Leicester during World War Two is to take place.
The 82nd Airborne Division was headquartered at Braunstone Park in the months before the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944.
A museum and a memorial stone for the parachute regiment are sited within the walled garden of the park and a small commemoration service is held annually.
This year's celebration on Saturday has been expanded to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two and will include military vehicles, re-enactments and a rifle salute.
Braunstone History Group traditionally celebrates the US troops on 16 August as it coincides with National Airborne Day across the Atlantic, marking the anniversary of the first official Army parachute jump in 1940.
Mr Dodd said the US troops arrived in March 1944 and made "quite an impression in the community".
"The local people in Leicester welcomed the Americans with open arms," he said.
"They had nylons, cigarettes and chocolate - we have got some packets of nylons in the 82nd Airborne museum in Braunstone Park."
The group is hopeful of a good turn-out for Saturday's celebration.
"I think visitors will get a sense of what communities were like in the past on the brink of war, and some pride in what people did to entertain the troops and make them feel at home," said Mr Dodd......
Zelensky could still attend Trump-Putin meeting, but rest of Europe is shut out. It's the bilateral summit every European leader wants to be at.
And for good reason. On Friday, Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
Territorial concessions are likely to be discussed, and Europe (not least Ukraine) doesn't want its borders to be redrawn through force.
But, as things stand, there are no invites for the country being invaded, nor the continent it sits in.
"Brace ourselves for some pretty outrageous Russian demands," warns Lord Simon McDonald, a former head of the UK Foreign Office.
"It will be theatrical," he adds. "Putin is going to ask for things that nobody else would concede - with the possible exception of Donald Trump."
President Zelensky has said he won't agree to the giving up of any land, or even freezing the conflict along the current front lines.
His argument is that it won't slow a Russian war machine that has waged a full-scale war for more than three and a half years. Concessions, he claims, would only speed it up.
"It's clear Putin wants a photo with the most influential people on Earth, which is President Trump, and he wants sanctions to be postponed, which he'll probably get," the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, tells me.
"The question is, what is success for the US in the meeting?" she asks. "If President Zelensky is there, it would be a clear success."
But if Ukraine's leader isn't at the Alaskan table, how might the Kremlin's proposals be challenged?.... #Wold #news
European leaders set to join call with Zelenskyy and Trump on Wednesday, Germany says - as it happpened. Trump also expressed frustration with Ukrainian president and pushed for a Zelenskyy-Putin meeting during press conference.
Trump hopes for constructive 'feel out' meeting with Putin, but says 'not up to me to make deal' Speaking in the White House in the last few minutes, US president Donald Trump has claimed his meeting with Putin will “a feel out meeting,” but he thought that the Russian president “wants to get it over with.”
“I’m going in to speak to Vladimir Putin, and I’m going to be telling him, you have got to end this war, you got to end it.” He says he hopes for “a constructive” conversation with the Russian president, and says he will call the European leaders to debrief them on the chat shortly after leaving the room. “Then after that meeting, immediately, maybe as I’m flying out, maybe as I’m leaving the room, I I’ll be calling the European leaders who I get along with very well. And you know, I have a great relationship, I think, with all of them, and I get along with Zelensky, but, you know, I disagree with what he’s done, very, very severely disagree. This is a war that should have never happened … but I’ll be speaking to Zelensky. The next meeting will be with Zelensky and Putin, or Zelensky, and Putin to me I’ll be there if they need me.”
He expressed some frustration with Zelenskyy again, saying:
“I was a little bothered by the fact that Zelensky was saying, Well, I have to get constitutional approval. I mean, he’s got approval to go into war and kill everybody, but he needs approval to do a land swap?
Because there’ll be some land swapping going on. I know that through Russia and through conversations with everybody to the good for the good of Ukraine, good stuff, not bad stuff, also some bad stuff for both. So it’s good and there’s bad, but it’s very complex, because you have lines that are very uneven. And there’ll be some swapping, there’ll
Bangladesh sees $2.48bn remittance in July. In July last year, remittances fell as expatriates protested unrest via social media. Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $2.48 billion home, kickstarting the new FY26 on a positive start.
This information was given in an updated report by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday.
Data analysis shows that this income is 29.48% higher than the same month last year.
In July 2024, $1.91 billion in remittances came into the country. In July last year, expatriates reduced remittances by calling on social media to protest political unrest.
Later, after the political changes, the remittance flow started increasing again.
Bangladesh Bank said that this money sent using banking channels is directly having a positive impact on the country's foreign exchange reserves.
Officials say that this continuity has been created due to various government initiatives to prevent hundi, a 2.5% incentive on remittances and the development of banking services.
Earlier, in June, expatriate Bangladeshis sent remittances of $2.82 billion to the country, which was 11% more than the same period of the previous year.
According to Bangladesh Bank, at the end of the fiscal year 2024-25, remittances came to the country at $30.33 billion, which is about 27% more than the previous fiscal year.
Remittances in the fiscal year 2023-24 came at $23.74 billion.
This figure is the highest remittances coming to the country in a single fiscal year.
Such a continuous increase in expatriate income has brought stability to the country's economy and relief in the supply of dollars. #banglades #Wold #news
Bowen: Israeli settlers intensify campaign to drive out West Bank Palestinians. Meir Simcha agreed to talk, but he wanted to do it somewhere special, because for him, this is a special time. In a place where nation, religion and war are linked inextricably with politics and the possession of land, Simcha chose a patch of shade under a fig tree next to a spring of fresh water.
From his dusty car, a small Toyota fitted with off road tyres, he produced a bottle of juice made from fruit and vegetables.
"Don't worry, there's no extra sugar," he said as he poured it into plastic cups.
Simcha is the leader of a group of Jewish settlers steadily transforming a big stretch of the rolling terrain south of Hebron in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since it was captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
He moved two large flat stones into the shade as seats, and we sat down in a patch of lush grass, kept alive in the harsh summer heat by water dripping from a pipe coming out of the spring. It was a small oasis at the foot of a steep, arid, rocky slope and the location, if not our conversation, felt peaceful in a way that the West Bank rarely does these days
The conflict between Arabs and Jews for control of the land between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea started well over a century ago when Zionists from Europe began to buy land to set up communities in Palestine.
It has been shaped by significant turning points.
The latest has come from the deadly 7 October 2023 attacks by Hamas and Israel's devastating response.
The consequences of the last 22 months of war, and however more months are left before a ceasefire, threaten to spread across years and generations, just like the Middle East war in 1967, when Israel captured Gaza from Egypt and East Jerusalem and the West Bank from Jordan.....
Bangladesh Elections To Be Held In First Week Of February: Poll Body Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, however, said the exact date would be disclosed two months before the schedule was announced. Bangladesh's poll body chief on Saturday said general elections would be held in the first week of February 2026 but ensuring it in a free, fair and impartial manner remained a major challenge.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, however, said the exact date would be disclosed two months before the schedule was announced.
People have lost confidence in the election system, the Election Commission and the administrative machinery involved in the electoral process," state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) quoted Uddin as saying at a function in northwestern Rangpur district.
Uddin said his office, however, was "working tirelessly to restore this lost trust." The CEC's comments come four days after interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced that the polls would be held in February next year. Yunus had made the announcement coinciding with the first anniversary of the ouster of prime minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League regime on August 5.......
