On May 23, at the 8th European Technology Innovation Exhibition (Viva Technology), Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed his cutting-edge views via video link, and in the subsequent remote interview, he had an in-depth exchange with the host and actively participated in the Q&A interaction with the audience. In this speech, Musk talked about many important topics, including the impact of AI on future work and education, the development and regulation of AI, the pursuit of xAI authenticity, and the exploration of Mars.
1. About AI and work
In the future, no one will need to work. Even if they have to work, it will be only out of love. Work will be an "option".
2. About AI and Education
AI will greatly impact education. AI is a very knowledgeable teacher and can tailor lessons to each child’s specific circumstances, just like every child has a teacher like Einstein.
3. On hopes and fears for the future
My greatest hope, in one word, is Mars; my greatest fear, in one word, is artificial intelligence.
4. About Mars Exploration
We expect humans to land on Mars within seven to eight years and return to the moon within five years.
When asked about the reason for creating xAI, Musk expressed his concern about the lack of pursuit of the greatest truth in current AI research, believing that "the safest thing for AI is to maximize the pursuit of truth", and emphasized that xAI will be committed to this goal, striving to build an AI that is beneficial to humans and avoid training "super-intelligent liars". He repeatedly emphasized: "Honesty is the best policy." Musk also said that xAI is committed to this and promised to "always release a model that goes beyond the current open source model" to increase transparency and promote healthy competition.
At the end of the interview, the host asked: Before you leave, I would like you to use one word to describe your greatest hope and another word to describe your greatest fear.
Musk: I don't have a word that can fully express my hopes and fears. But if I had to use one word to express my greatest hope, it would be "Mars." Mars will ensure the long-term survival of human consciousness. And my greatest fear, in one word, is "artificial intelligence."
