The scam began when the victim received a worthless cryptocurrency transaction to their digital wallet, placing the sending address at the top of the history available to the victim. Furthermore, the address was very similar to the target's own digital wallet address.
In this type of scam, the idea is that the address that will receive the amount sent by the victim is similar to addresses used in transactions, seeking to take advantage of a possible lack of attention on the part of the victim. And that's what happened in this case, as the target just copied and pasted the address without verifying it.
As a result, the victim ended up transferring a million-dollar amount of wrapped bitcoins, a type of cryptocurrency paired with bitcoin, to the wrong address, which had been created by the scammers. Now, the transaction cannot be reversed and the amount is lost.
