Nasdaq applies to the SEC to list tokenized stocks, has the traditional exchange finally broken through the dimensional wall?
This is not a minor issue! The world's top exchange, Nasdaq, has officially submitted an application to the U.S. SEC, requesting permission to list and trade—tokenized stocks!
In simple terms, the Apple and Tesla stocks you buy in the future may no longer be just a string of numerical records but rather a true “token” that circulates on the blockchain. However, it has the same rights as ordinary stocks: dividends, voting, book value, all included.
The core of Nasdaq's proposal is:
1. Equal rights and responsibilities: Tokenized stocks must have completely the same shareholder rights as traditional stocks;
2. Fair trading: The priority of trading tokenized assets = traditional assets, no one cuts in line;
3. Clear identification: It must be clearly marked in the code and settlement process “this is a token”, facilitating system processing.
This is far more than a “technical upgrade”; it is a challenge to the underlying logic of Wall Street. Bloomberg also commented: This determines whether blockchain technology is just a toy for the crypto circle or a real infrastructure that can be integrated into mainstream finance.
If approved, it means:
1. Traditional stocks will officially be “on-chain”: you will no longer have to only buy Bitcoin on Coinbase, you can directly trade tokenized Apple stocks on Nasdaq;
2. Clearing and settlement will be faster and cheaper: Blockchain technology can significantly shorten settlement times and reduce intermediary costs;
3. The crypto world and traditional finance will truly be connected: no one will be able to say “the crypto circle is a scam” anymore—because Nasdaq has entered the arena.
Of course, this experiment has just begun. But it has released a clear signal:
Blockchain is not a question of whether to use it, but how to use it and when to use it.
Perhaps in the near future, when we open our accounts, we will find both Bitcoin and tokenized Nasdaq stocks lying inside. And that day may come sooner than we think.
