The Maxwell hardfork, deployed on May 22, 2025, is BNB Smart Chain’s most significant recent upgrade. It brought several key enhancements to the network:
Block time reduced to 0.75 seconds (down from 1.5 seconds), enabling faster transaction confirmations and smoother user experience.
Introduced BEP-524, implementing the new sub-second block interval.
Deployed BEP-563, which optimizes validator peer-to-peer communications, enhancing consensus reliability and reducing sync delays.

Infrastructure Client Update – Alpha Release
If you’re operating a BSC (BNB Smart Chain) node, there’s a relevant developer-level update:
A v1.6.0-alpha preview release is out, aligning with go-ethereum v1.16.1.
It adds features like archive mode indexing, faster log filtering, log timestamp metadata, and other performance and code improvements.
Important note for node operators: upgrading from v1.5.x to v1.6.0-alpha triggers snapshot regeneration, which might degrade performance temporarily (e.g., ~5 hours on high-end machines). Additionally, it’s not safe for “FastNode” setups due to data compatibility issues.
