Bitcoin's Hash Rate sets a new record despite stagnant prices
While Bitcoin's price has remained relatively stable, the network of the largest cryptocurrency in the world has recorded an important milestone: the hash rate has reached 1 zettahash/second (ZH/s) for the first time on a 7-day average.
According to CoinWarz, the index #hashrate on the impressive day peaked at 1.279 ZH/s, the highest ever recorded. The hash rate reflects the computational power securing the network; the higher it is, the harder it is to execute a 51% attack, meaning the Bitcoin network is safer.
This achievement comes amid challenges faced by miners: rising energy costs and block rewards dropping to 3.125 $BTC after the halving event, which is half of what it was before. Nevertheless, the increase in hash rate indicates that mining activities are still expanding, as companies continue to invest in more powerful machinery and infrastructure.
The peak in hash rate also reflects the shift of the mining industry from China to North America since the ban in 2021, making this region the largest mining center today for #bitcoin .
