In August, the damage from hacks in the crypto industry amounted to $163 million. Analysts from PeckShield recorded about 16 major attacks.
The indicator increased by 15% compared to July, when losses reached $142 million.
One of the targets of the hackers was the Turkish cryptocurrency exchange BtcTurk. The platform lost assets worth $54 million. This is the second major hack of the exchange in the last year. In June 2024, the attackers withdrew more than $50 million from BtcTurk.
The largest single incident of the month is related to a private bitcoin investor. The user lost 783 BTC (~$91 million) as a result of a social engineering attack.
