Is there still a altcoin season in the crypto world? Why are altcoins not moving even though ETH has surpassed 4000?
Recently, many friends have asked: "ETH has broken through 4000, BTC has surged to 120,000 USD, why aren’t altcoins rising much? Has the altcoin season ended?"
Actually, this is quite normal, and there are three main reasons:
1️⃣ Funds are concentrated in mainstream assets
In the current market, large funds prefer to allocate to BTC and ETH. On one hand, institutional funds like ETFs are continuously flowing in, and on the other hand, these two assets have the highest certainty. The main players first boost market sentiment and trends, and altcoins naturally lag behind.
2️⃣ Altcoins are generally in a "chip turnover period"
Many projects have seen excessive early-stage gains, leading to heavy losses, and the main players need time to clear out weak hands. Altcoins that haven't experienced turnover find it hard to surge immediately. The current sideways movements and downtrends are essentially a washout.
3️⃣ The market style switch hasn’t reached altcoins yet
Every bull market has its rhythm: first, BTC breaks through → ETH follows and accelerates → platform coins and leading public chains strengthen → finally, funds spread to secondary and tertiary altcoins.
Currently, ETH has just stabilized at 4000, and the mainstream market is only entering the acceleration phase, so the altcoin season naturally has to wait a bit longer.
The altcoin season will not be absent; it’s just that the time isn't right.
Once ETH truly breaks through the previous high of 4730 and establishes an independent trend, market funds will have more confidence to speculate on altcoins. At that point, sector rotation will fully unfold.
So, don’t be discouraged just because there hasn’t been a short-term rise; bull markets have always been “first mainstream, then altcoins,” it’s just a matter of timing. Keep an eye on quality altcoins, be patient, and once the altcoin season begins, it often comes more aggressively than expected.
